POSITION SUMMARY

Under the broad direction of the Sr. Superintendent of Grounds or designee, incumbent is responsible for the supervision of 1 Lead Groundskeeper and approximately 22 Groundskeepers/Laborers.  Responsible for the acceptable performance of grounds maintenance in such areas as mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerifying, renovating, and installing lawns.  Directs all routine care of cultivated and surfaced areas.  Inspects, and monitors ground area in his/her district.  Interacts on a regular basis with clients, maintaining a positive and proactive relationship to insure that grounds are being properly maintained at a satisfactory level.  Hire, train, evaluate and take disciplinary actions necessary on employees.  Plan short/long range goals and objectives, costs analysis, and inventory control.  Instruct and supervise groundskeepers in proper usage, care and maintenance of tools and equipment.

As a supervisor you will be responsible for providing a variety of outdoor maintenance services that helps maintain and preserve the health and beauty of the campus.

1. Direct subordinates activities in assigned district on the routine care and maintenance of all campus cultivated and surfaced areas. (E) 2. Visit job sites to discuss work status with subordinates to determine progress, accuracy and quality of workmanship and to assess progress in relation to time schedules; resolve customer concerns and problems on site. Assure quality and quantity of all work performed are at a level consistent with University standards. (E) 3. Respond to emergency/non-emergency calls by assigning appropriate personnel. Establish priority for work assignments. If required, coordinate employee assignments with other supervisors to assure adequate grounds maintenance of the campus. (E) 4. Supervise employees. (E) 5. Assure all trash receptacles are emptied on a daily basis. (E) 6. Manage Athens 3-yard bins on campus- recycling bins, compost bins and trash bins. (E) 7. Schedule trash and recycling compactors to be exchanged and maintained. (E) 8. Schedule roll-offs as needed. (E) 9. Order decals for trash and recycling containers for the program. (E) 10. Oversee single stream container pick-up in campus buildings. (E) 11. Coordinate vehicle maintenance on all recycling vehicles. (E) 12. Deliver clear stream bins for campus events. (E) 13. Oversee cleaning of campus loading docks. (E) 14. Coordination and oversight of FM yard, activities pertaining to recycling and refuse; including e-waste, metal, sort program, refuse. (E)

1. Plan, schedule and coordinate all aspects of grounds keeping maintenance services in assigned district. Schedule special activities, i.e., renovating and installation of lawns. Ensure all work projects and special work orders are completed according to schedule. (E) 2. Audit timekeeping/payroll records on computerized timekeeping/payroll program (KRONOS) daily, and modify or correct records as appropriate ensuring accuracy and appropriate charges to various projects/work orders. (E) 3. Order and maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment required for grounds maintenance. (E) 4. Complete materials transfer forms and submit to supervisor for approval. (E) 5. Conduct performance evaluations, counseling and feedback sessions, and implementation of progressive disciplinary action. (E) 6. Discuss and/or provide written reports/updates of repairs to supervisor keeping him/her informed of job progress and/or operational concerns. (E) 7. Conduct regular safety meetings to increase occupational safety awareness that comply with Labor Laws. (E) 8. Train subordinates in proper methods of grounds maintenance and proper usage, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment in order to satisfactorily complete job functions or when subordinates request assistance. Provide continuous training in new/revised work methods, techniques, and procedures. (E) 9. Kronos edits for employees. (E) 10. Plan and print employee schedules. (E) 11. Coordinate vacation and sick time coverage. (E) 12. Coordinate employee schedules. (E) 13. Schedule and oversee FSRs for e-waste pick-up. (E) 14. Schedule vendor pick-ups for wooden pallets, toner cartridges, batteries and scrap metal. (E) 15. Order materials as needed (trash bags, recycling bags, compost bags, masks, gloves, etc.) (E) 16. Schedule delivery of containers ordered by clients. (E) 17. Schedule and facilitate safety training for employees and turn in safety rosters. (E) 18. Post and turn in weekly overtime sign-in sheets. (E) 19. Post and turn in lateral transfer request sheets as requires by the CBA. (E) 20. Prepare estimates for recycling and e-waste pick-ups. (E)

Upon completion of work, clean up job sites and return equipment, materials, tools, radios, pagers, and Kronos wands to designated storage areas. (E) 6.
