POSITION SUMMARY | The Director of Football Equipment Operations is responsible for assisting in the overall management and supervision of the equipment and apparel needs for the UCLA Football program. This position will be under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Football Equipment and the Assistant Athletic Director, Equipment Operations working specifically with a football program that includes approximately 120 student-athletes, 11 coaches and approximately 30 support staff. Successful candidate will be responsible for being hands-on in the football equipment room operations, including supervising student managers , monitoring, and distribution of all equipment and apparel for the UCLA football program. Other duties include collaborating with the Senior Director of Football Equipment when as it pertains to inventory tracking, locker room maintenance, facility upkeep, ensuring the safety of team issued gear and practice and training items, as well as oversight of staff issued apparel. Position will serve as a secondary contact for the setup of on and off campus team practices as well as the timely and efficient transportation of athletic equipment, uniforms and necessary apparel to all athletic contests – both at home at the Rose Bowl and on the road to all contents, and potentially off-site training camp locations. Duties will also include recruiting student managers, assisting with recruiting events and camp operational needs, and daily laundry services to meet team needs. | | | |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Football Equipment and Apparel | • Collaborate with the Senior Director for Football Equipment, reviewing team requests and needs during championship and non-championship season, recruiting periods, and team related activities and workouts. • Fit all athletes with proper equipment/apparel for their respective position, insuring their maximum protection, fit, size, and proper appearance. This includes helmets, shoulder and body pads, cleats and uniform. • Understand current equipment and apparel for inventory and ordering needs of product for current and future use. • Serve as team’s secondary contact with shoe and apparel provider. Possess a general understanding for how to properly budget and utilize funds under the direction of the Senior Director for Football Equipment. | 25% | Football Equipment and Apparel | • Research and review new equipment offerings to determine its suitability for the Football program. • Properly receive, issue, and store practice and competition equipment/apparel. • Act as an integral member of department equipment team to service teams with highest level of service and professionalism. • Inspect all equipment and apparel regularly for any maintenance issues and determine if repairable. Make repairs as needed. • Possess an understanding for what equipment is needed in all conditions as it pertains directly to football and different environments. | 25% | Equipment Purchasing and Procurement | Develop an understanding for how to make purchases with the business and finance department. Understand current shoe and apparel contract and the various aspects of team related needs with all needed vendors. Understand the budget by working hands-on with the Senior Direct of Football Equipment during the procurement process. Utilize past knowledge in order to advance the football equipment operation and serve as a resource for the Senior Director of Football Equipment. Specifically, bring new ideas for how to enhance the facility, maximize resources, and manage student-managers. Basic knowledge regarding logistics so all shipments are properly tracked and received. | 15% | Storage & Inventory | Understand and comply with department standards in terms of Inventory policy. Manage the stocking and storage of equipment and apparel using provided storage capacities. Execute reconditioning annually, including but not limited to the all safety equipment. Keep detailed inventory records on all items received, issued, distributed and returned. Utilize the Departments Inventory Software to track, issues, and retrieve all items for taxation purposes. Collaborate with the Senior director to develop an system for tracking and maintaining equipment. | 10% | Equipment Transportation and Maintenance | Pack all equipment and apparel required for each game and / or offsite practice, including but not limited to the Rose Bowl, road games, bowl games and pre-season team practices, as needed. Collaborate with the Senior Director of Football Equipment to ensure all team equipment is packed, loaded, and shipped to both home and visiting venues. Serve as a secondary contact on game day for additional team service needs (headset communications and sideline heaters/coolers) and collaborate with game operations staff to execute team needs. When called upon, serve as the team’s advance member to prepare for the arrival of equipment and team staff and student-athletes. | 5% | Equipment Transportation and Maintenance | Develop method to efficiently and effectively load/unload equipment at each site and setup/breakdown to accommodate all team related needs. Set-up team locker room and equipment room before the team arrives. During competition, insure all equipment is properly fit for student-athletes.
