POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director has oversight over all Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) day-to-day operations, programs and resource development (excluding Graduate Writing Center programs). The Assistant Director serves as lead staff person advising the graduate student planning committees for our graduate student Program Coordinators and Graduate Student Orientation; oversees the GSRC staff, office supply, programming budgets, and departmental purchasing. The Assistant Director assumes responsibility for the hiring, training, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate student Administrative Assistant staff, graduate student Program Coordinator staff, and the Orientation Coordinators. The Assistant Director represents the GSRC on many divisional and systemwide committees such as: The Healthy Campus Initiative, The Graduate Student Professional Development Collaborative Working Group, the Economic Crisis Response Team, and other committees as needed and works closely with the Graduate Students Association, campus partners, faculty and graduate student leaders to support and advocate for graduate student needs and resource development across campus. The Assistant Director also occasionally serves on system-wide committees and acts in place of the GSRC Director, in their absence. The Assistant Director facilitates referrals for graduate students in crisis or with significant concerns.


Department Summary

The UCLA Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) is a key initiative of the Graduate Students Association (GSA) and is managed by Student Affairs. Serving as a vital resource, referral, and information center, the GSRC supports the diverse needs of UCLA's graduate and professional school students. The GSRC provides guidance and support in navigating the unique challenges of graduate school, and offer a variety of workshops and programs in collaboration with our campus partners. The GSRC plays a central role in organizing significant campus-wide events such as the Graduate Student Orientation (GSO) and Graduate & Professional Student Appreciation Week (GPSA). Additionally, the GSRC houses the Graduate Writing Center, further enhancing the academic and professional development of our students.

Program & Resource Management

Responsibilities include recruiting, selecting, hiring, and training graduate students as Program Coordinators and Administrative Assistants, often in collaboration with allied offices. The role advises Program Coordinators on planning, implementing, and assessing programs, and developing graduate-specific resources. It oversees communication and outreach strategies through channels like the GSRC website and social media. Additionally, the individual serves as a liaison to graduate student interest and affinity groups, co-developing programs for at-risk students. The role also seeks funding opportunities and collaborates with partners to enhance resources and services at UCLA.

Orientation Programs

The role includes overseeing the implementation of the Graduate Student Orientation, serving as the lead advisor to the Orientation Planning Committee, and managing all logistics, publicity, workshops, and the resource fair associated with the event. The position also involves participating in the development of new initiatives for both the Graduate Student Orientation and the True Bruin Welcome program. Training and supervising all orientation coordinators is also a key responsibility of this role.

Office Management

Recruit and select front desk student staff, oversee their training, and manage their schedules. It includes providing feedback on their performance and managing both the student staff budget and the program budget. The individual is also responsible for facilitating referrals and resources for graduate students in crisis or with significant concerns. Additionally, the role includes supporting all departmental purchasing using Bruin Buy Plus and other university systems.

Other

Represent the GSRC on divisional and university committees relevant to its programming initiatives is a key responsibility. This includes participating in GSRC assessment projects, assisting the GSRC Director with various program initiatives and other duties as assigned, serving on the Healthy Campus Initiative Committee and the Academic & Professional Graduate Student Welfare Committee. The individual also acts in place of the GSRC Director in their absence. Work collaboratively with the Program Specialists, Graduate Career Services, Graduate Student Association, Division of Graduate Education, and other campus partners.
