POSITION SUMMARY | The Assistant Director of Academics & First-Year Experience (FYE) at UCLA Residential Life oversees the implementation and assessment of programs, partnerships, and services that support the academic and intellectual development of 24,000 residential students. This position includes a live-in component and requires participation in a 24/7 duty rotation, serving as a critical responder for the campus. The role requires adaptability, visionary leadership, and a collaborative spirit to work with staff, faculty, and campus partners in fostering a dynamic and supportive residential environment. Reporting to the Associate Director of Academics & FYE, the Assistant Director's role includes direct supervision of two (2) Program Coordinators and indirect supervision of student staff (Project Management Interns, Community Development Interns, and Study Hall Proctors.) The Assistant Director ensures the delivery of impactful programming that facilitates first-year students' transition and academic success, while fostering collaboration with campus partners. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Academic Development & Support Services | Provide a full range of academic support services and initiatives to address student academic wellness and success. Plan and develop partnerships to support peer learning and mentoring initiatives. Maintain strong working relationships, and implement projects with campus partners concerned with student success, including Academic Departments, Schools, Academic Support Units, Student Affairs departments, Alumni Relations, etc. Plan and implement academic support services and programs in on-campus housing, established Learning Centers, and resource units. Participates with training programs, the production of promotional materials and manuals, and event execution. | 35% | First-Year Experience Program Implementation & Development | Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive programs and initiatives supporting first-year and transitioning students, including signature events like Bruin Overnight Experience, Diverse Admit Week, and Welcome Week. Foster collaborative relationships with campus partners to enhance student development, transition support, and resource allocation. Serve as a key resource for students navigating their college transition, promoting a sense of community and belonging. Collaborate with the Associate Director to expand the First-Year Experience (FYE) program, aligning with departmental and divisional goals. Oversee assessment efforts to optimize programming and resource distribution, ensuring a seamless, impactful first-year experience within Residential Life. | 30% | Budget and Resource Oversight & Staff Supervision | Responsible for budget tracking and resource allocation for designated programs, ensuring alignment with departmental and university policies. Maintain comprehensive records of program planning, execution, student participation, and outcomes to inform future initiatives. Ensure compliance with financial and administrative guidelines while optimizing resource use to achieve program goals effectively. Directly supervise two Program Coordinators, providing guidance, professional development, and performance evaluations. Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluation of staff, ensuring ongoing professional development. Responsible for any corrective action to staff. | 20% | Crisis Management & On-Call Duty | Serve in a live-in capacity with participation in a 24/7 duty rotation to respond to emergencies affecting the residential population of 24,000 students. Provide leadership and support during crises, coordinating with Housing Services, Campus Police, and Counseling and Psychological Services.
