POSITION SUMMARY

The Prevention Education and Outreach Advocate provides CARE prevention, education, and outreach initiatives to address sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking, while collaborating with campus stakeholders and community organizations to provide advocacy, training, and program evaluation. This position serves as a liaison and mentor, adapting efforts to meet diverse campus needs.confidential and privileged advice, assistance and advocacy to students who are victims of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. In addition, the Prevention Education and Outreach Advocate supports diverse students in pursuing avenues of healing and justice, and serves as advocate in the student conduct process for victims of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking, providing student conduct process orientation, case status and disposition notification, and hearing support.

 

Provides criminal justice system orientation and court support, and assistance in filing for state compensation under the Victim of Violent Crimes Act. Facilitates referrals for psychological and emotional needs resulting from the trauma of assault, transferring students into therapy and psychiatric care on and off campus as needed. Advocacy also includes assistance in coordinating accommodations and services with campus departments and local agencies including UCPD on behalf of the student in all areas, including Student Services/University services, coordination of legal advocacy, medical advocacy and other assistance as needed. Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a case management system to coordinate, facilitate, and monitor programs and services available to distressed students. Working collaboratively with the CARE Prevention Team, participates in educational outreach services to diverse University populations.

Provides CARE prevention, education, programming and outreach workshops, social media campaigns, and marketing for the UCLA campus related to preventing sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. Consults with campus staff, administrators, faculty, and student organizations on sexual and gender-based violence. Serves as a campus liaison to assess needs for gender-based violence programs. Participate in campus committees as assigned by the Director. Is able to adapt training to meet the needs of the target audience. Develops and maintains relationships with local community-based organizations to assist with advocacy and referral efforts.  Supports CARE student peer educators. Involves in evaluation of programs.

Advocacy

Provides comprehensive, survivor-centered advocacy and support for individuals navigating complex sexual violence situations. Assists in safety planning, connects survivors with campus resources, and advocates within various university offices, including the Dean for Students, UCPD, Financial Aid, and others. Represents complainants in student conduct processes and collaborates with external entities like courts and the District Attorney's office. Facilitates access to medical care, emergency support, and therapeutic services, including CAPS and the Santa Monica UCLA Rape Treatment Center. Supports survivors’ recovery through holistic referrals, including for friends and family. Maintains confidential case files, analyzes trends, and prepares reports to inform advocacy efforts.
