POSITION SUMMARY

The Trainer/Consultant for UCLA is part the LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) which is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to new and current employees at DCFS, particularly new hire Children's Social Workers (CSWs), current CSWs, and Supervising Social Workers (SCSWs), as well as public health nurses (PHNs), managers and administrators, case aides, and other stakeholders. Serves as a subject matter expert in child welfare legal practice and adult learning methodologies. Designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates specialized training curricula and simulation-based learning experiences. Provides instructional leadership, coaching, and consultation to trainers and stakeholders to ensure high-quality training delivery and learner outcomes.

 

 The trainer/consultant also develops curriculum on a variety of child welfare topics present to DCFS employees at various levels within the organization as well as assist in delivering Seminars to DCFS Interns.  This position reports to the Training Director but is expected to perform at a high degree of professionalism and autonomy.

 

Master's degree in social work or closely related field, expertise in child welfare and training (live and virtual) experience as well as strong project management skills, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, and facilitation skills are required.


Department Summary

The LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to DCFS Employees.  The contract also provides curriculum design and development as well as professional development to DCFS staff at various levels on different child welfare topics, including but not limited to State Wide Standardized content for New Social Workers.

Training Delivery and Development

Provide training and curriculum development on a variety of legally related topics on child welfare  to DCFS personnel at multiple levels, including newly hired CSWs, existing CSW staff, as well as possibly to SCSWs, managers/administrators, support staff, PHNs, and other stakeholders such as resource parents, mental health staff, judges/lawyers, etc. Design, develop, revise, and evaluate curriculum and instructional materials to ensure alignment with DCFS practice requirements and legal mandates.

Subject Matter Content Expertise 

Lead and supervise the creation, development, and delivery of all simulation trainings for directional and substantive feedback to CSWs, building practice skills in a controlled environment. Coach and guide  trainers to enhance their facilitation and instructional role-playing skills for effective field training. Schedule and assign trainers to duties/tasks at each simulation training. Deliver a briefing and debriefing for the training team at each simulation to improve quality outcomes in a manner consistent with the DCFS practice model and mission. Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend instructional improvements to strengthen learner performance.

Strategy, Consultation, and Stakeholder Engagement

 Analyze training issues and participate collaboratively with other universities and DCFS stakeholders to plan and strategize effective training delivery and design. Facilitate trainee feedback in a skillful manner, taking initiative to address training issues using subject matter knowledge and expertise to recommend effective training solutions and address training gaps.

Evaluation

Assess training issues and effectiveness and participate collaboratively with other university and DCFS training stakeholders to plan and strategize about effective training delivery and design. Analyze training outcomes and recommends improvements. Attend and participate in work groups and committees to plan, design, and as needed.

Training Space Preparation and other duties

Set up and maintain training rooms as needed, ie arranging chairs and tables, preparing and moving flip charts and easels, distributing equipment, supplies, handouts, etc. Take responsibility for training experiences and trainees' needs. Other duties as assigned.
