POSITION SUMMARY

The Trainer/Consultant for UCLA is part the LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) which is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to new and current employees at DCFS, particularly new hire Children's Social Workers (CSWs), current CSWs, and Supervising Social Workers (SCSWs), as well as public health nurses (PHNs), managers and administrators, case aides, and other stakeholders. Master's degree in social work or closely related field, expertise in child welfare and training (live and virtual) experience as well as strong project management skills, interpersonal, presentation, collaboration, and facilitation skills are required.  The trainer/consultant also develops curriculum on a variety of child welfare topics present to DCFS employees at various levels within the organization as well as assist in delivering Seminars to DCFS Interns.  This position reports to the Center Director but is expected to perform at a high degree of professionalism and autonomy.


Department Summary

The LADCFS+UCLA Academy of Workforce Excellence (AWE) is an ongoing contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families (DCFS), whereby universities in Los Angeles County with master's degree programs in social work provide training to DCFS Employees.  The contract also provides curriculum design and development as well as professional development to DCFS staff at various levels on different child welfare topics, including but not limited to State Wide Standardized content for New Social Workers.

Provide training and curriculum development on a variety of child welfare-related topics to DCFS personnel at multiple levels, including newly hired CSWs, existing CSW staff, as well as possibly to SCSWs, managers/administrators, support staff, PHNs, and other stakeholders such as resource parents, mental health staff, judges/lawyers, etc.

Co-facilitate foundation training academy for new hires, coordinate with DCFS staff.  Support in the planning and implementation of training initiatives both State mandated and DCFS required.

Subject Matter Content Expertise 

Be involved in field/office-based coaching training as well as simulation field train as needed, providing substantive direction in a manner consistent with the practice model and the direction of the AWE.

Assist with training scheduling, planning, course development, development of learning objectives and abstracts, registration, simulation and coaching activities, and complete program reports, help design training evaluations, and other duties as assigned.

Facilitate trainee feedback in a skillful manner and take initiative to address training issues using subject matter knowledge and expertise to recommend effective training solutions and address training gaps.

Training Assistance and Simulation

Design and participate in training activities, exercises, simulations, curriculum design, coaching, meetings, and develop training materials using knowledge of adult learning theories and principles.  Oversee and assist with developing contract trainers in delivery of training content, offering coordination and instruction to facilitate effective training delivery as well as linking content to other trainings as well as the DCFS practice model and mission.

Evaluation Support

Analyze training issues and participate collaboratively with other university and DCFS training stakeholders to plan and strategize about effective training delivery and design.

Attend and participate in work groups and committees to plan, design, and as needed. Administer training evaluations by use of laptops or other technology as requested, including giving instructions to trainees, monitoring compliance, and trouble-shooting issues or questions that arise.

Training Space Preparation and other duties. 

Set up and maintain training rooms as needed, including moving sets in simulation centers, arranging chairs and tables, preparing and moving flip charts and easels, distributing equipment, supplies, handouts, etc. Take responsibility for training experiences and trainees' needs. Other duties as assigned.
