POSITION SUMMARY | The Platform Engineer will play a key role in enabling the university's "cloud-first" strategy by designing, implementing, and managing the university's cloud- based infrastructure and services. This role's day-to-day work will involve a range of responsibilities, from architecture and provisioning to monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization, ensuring that the university's cloud environment is secure, efficient, and effective. The Platform Engineer will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values. | | | |
Department Summary | Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown. Platform Services enables hybrid cloud for computing, storage, and services environments with a mix of on-premises infrastructure, private cloud services, and public cloud. This team creates seamless orchestration across various platforms to stimulate agility, scalability, reliability, and lower infrastructure costs. This allows for applications and components to interoperate across boundaries improving developer productivity as well as regulatory compliance and security. Platform Services oversees provisioning, hosting, and administration of physical and virtual servers and related storage. They maintain and provision core storage capabilities such as server storage and database backups. |
