POSITION SUMMARY | Operate the James Bridges Theater projection booth, James Bridges Theater and the Digital Screening Theater (1422), which provides screening facilities to the department, various organizations and off campus rentals. Major duties include projection, supervised maintenance, repair and adherence to safety rules and regulations. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | OPERATING AND USE OF EQUIPMENT | 1. Operate all projection booth, theater and lobby equipment in the James Bridges Theater which includes 35/70mm, 16mm single and double system projection and HD/SD Video playback and projection systems. 2. Prior to projection inspect and prepare motion picture prints according to accepted standards, rules and regulations of the motion picture industry and booth safety regulations. 3. Prepare print condition reports based upon the thorough inspection of each film. 4. Compute ratios as they relate to projection aspect ratios, down angles, projection throws and lens sizes according to the specific film format to be projected. 5. Prepare and run a show to completion for a theater audience according to schedule in a professional manner following established motion picture and television industry projection presentation standards. 6. Maintain a clean, orderly working environment to protect films against hazards of dust, humidity and static electricity. 7. Ensure that safety rules and regulations are followed as they relate to the professional projection of safety and hazardous nitrate film. Assure conformity to state fire safety codes. 8. Recognize violations of safety rules and regulations and report violations and the presence of unsafe conditions to supervisor. 9. Establish and maintain files of time records, print condition reports, maintenance records and fact sheets. | 70% | MAINTENANCE | 1. Perform routine preventative maintenance tests on projection equipment and all related accessories including: projectors; lamphouses; rectifiers; sound systems; rewinds; film inspection equipment; controls; magnetic film reproducers; video and audio player/recorders; monitors; microphones; various hand tools and electronic testing equipment; intercoms; fire door; exhaust systems and recommend repairs and repair services. 2. Recommend to supervisor the purchase of new equipment and of spare parts to maintain spare parts inventory. | 25% | SCHEDULING | 1. Assist supervisor in coordinating the scheduling and use of projection equipment and theater facilities with faculty and theater users according to instructional needs and public performance programming requirement. James Bridges Theater screenings average approximately 80 per month. 2. Assist supervisor in coordinating print traffic to and from the James Bridges projection booth. 3. Ensure that fact sheets are complete, accurate and submitted on a timely basis in accordance with departmental policy to ensure the smooth running operation of the theater. | 5% | | | | | |
