DIRECTION - Indicates that the incumbent establishes procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives in a broad area of work. Only the final results of work done are typically reviewed. Incumbent typically develops procedures within the limits of established policy guidelines.


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of Students, adjudicates matters referred for disciplinary action and mediates campus-related disputes; counsels and makes referrals for students with grievances; researches and drafts recommendations for policies and procedures related to student conduct-related matters; develops and presents to the University community educational programs on student conduct-related issues; and serves on various campus-wide committees. Supports the Office of the Dean of Students in managing responses to Bias incidents when individual student(s) is the named complainant, supports the Grievance procedures that the Office of the Dean of Students manages, including procedures that outline responses to grievances of violations of privacy protections, university debts, and discrimination beyond disability when another University office does not have jurisdiction.

Student Conduct

Administer the UCLA student/student group conduct programs: Consult with dean’s team, resolve matters through mediation; by imposing sanctions; or by referral to Hearing as necessary. Conducts administrative reviews involving alleged student conduct violations, including fact-finding, assessment of information, and determining next steps .Maintain office database. Serve as Campus Security Authority, report allegations in compliance with the Clery Act. Comply with polices for disclosure of student records. Write preliminary findings reports in the student group conduct process. Comply with University-required and departmental-required trainings for positional compliance. Manage responses into possible bias,  grievances, and reported incidents for named student complainants, and in some cases, student respondents, where appropriate and required; report Title IX and Title VI disclosures per campus policy.

Student Affairs

Assist students with resolving University-related problems. Provide information about the University, interpret and explain relevant policies, procedures, and regulations to others. May be assigned to serve as advisor to Honor Societies including Mortar Board, Golden Key, Alpha Lambda Delta/ Phi Eta Sigma, or Tau Sigma. Conduct annual review and recommend revisions of department policy, publications, and websites. Prepare official notices regarding student conduct for publication. Prepare official reports as required by the Clery Act and the Drug-Free Schools Act. Represent the Dean of Students on campus-wide committees. Serve in an On-Call response capacity during business hours, to address emergent issues.

Educational Presentations

Develop and conduct presentations for the department. Collaborate with other campus units, as necessary, in the development of training materials and presentations. Evaluate presentations and associated materials. Conduct research) on issues relating to student conduct.

Special Projects

Special projects in support of the Office of the Dean of Students or the Student Affairs organization, as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students, the Dean of Students or the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Participate in UC-wide, campus-wide, or Student Affairs committees as assigned. Participate in development, review, revision of campus and University policies and procedures impacting students, as appropriate.
