POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Coordinator serves as primary advisor to two of the six governing councils as well as fraternities and sororities from all six councils, assists the Director in overseeing the Department's services and programs, serves as the Director's designee for selected committees, and provides necessary assistance to department staff in the absence of the Director. This incumbent is responsible for creating and implementing a programmatic plan that complements the Social Greek Letter Organizations (SGLO) that promote the ideals of their organizations, contributes to the mission of UCLA and the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, while adhering to best practices in risk management and civil behavior. Also responsible for helping to engage all SGLOs together at UCLA and within the larger UCLA community. The Coordinator will be instrumental in helping to create a community that is engaging and positively contributing to the UCLA campus through their experiences within their chapters, participation in learning opportunities in the afforded effort in developing leaders at UCLA and beyond.

 

 

 

The candidate for this position is expected to be a transformational leader for this community and Department while supporting and participating in the Division of Student Affairs training and development. As an engaged team member with colleagues in the Division of Campus Life portfolio, the Coordinator will also be a "bridge builder" with administrators and connecting students to departments and services. The primary purposes of these collaborative efforts are primarily to engage students with the campus community and to cultivate experiential learning opportunities.

 

 


Department Summary

The mission of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life at UCLA is to enrich the personal growth and advancement of UCLA students through their involvement in, or affiliation with, the fraternity and sorority community. UCLA hosts a vibrant community consisting of 60 inter/national and local Greek-letter organizations, overseen by six governing councils. With approximately 3,500 students actively engaged, this community represents 13% of the undergraduate student body. Our office is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive learning environment where every student feels a sense of belonging, grounded in a shared dedication to their fraternal values and the core principles of True Bruin Values: Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence.

Advisement of Students/Student Groups 

ʉۢ Assist the Director of Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life in providing leadership to the fraternity & sorority community.

ʉۢ Responsible for University Sponsored Membership Recruitment programs of Social Greek Letter Organizations (SGLO) occurring annually and quarterly, ensuring compliance with University Policies, Inter/National Headquarters and local council and chapter rules and regulations.

ʉۢ Primary advisor of two of the governing councils (Asian Greek Council, Interfraternity Council, Latinx Greek Council, Multi-Interest Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council) that are Officially Recognized by the University, and advise selected assigned registered student organizations within the Greek community (i.e. honor societies, Greek week).

ʉۢ Primary advisor of a selection of chapters represented across all 6 councils through a portfolio advising model.

ʉۢ Develop and provide education to chapters and councils in the areas of: leadership development, member and new member programming, hazing prevention, risk management, bystander intervention, and recruitment and retention.

ʉۢ Provide counsel and referrals to students in the areas of: equity, diversity and inclusion, alcohol and substance use and abuse, students and situations of concern, and gender-based violence prevention, etc.

ʉۢ Facilitate ongoing interaction within and among the SGLOs across the governing councils through reoccurring council and chapter president's meetings and programming, along with town and gown relations with the University community and the neighborhood.

ʉۢ Interpret and uphold University policies (i.e. FERPA, CLERY, etc.), procedures and regulations (i.e. Student Group Code of Conduct); act as a liaison between organization leaders, individual chapters and governing councils and appropriate University units.

ʉۢ Provide presentations, advisement and leadership to organizations and the community to various constituencies in the areas of but not limited to: governance, judicial concerns, University policies, funding applications, procedures and regulations, recruitment/intake, as well as state and municipal laws as they relate to membership activities, educational and social programming, general fiscal matters, fire and safety.

ʉۢ Provides assistance with the maintenance of the Fraternity & Sorority Life website, coordination of chapter/council presidents meetings, and production of grade/roster reports.

ʉۢ Develop and implement programming that is consistent with the Policy Applying to Official Recognition of Men's and Women's Fraternities, and other Similar Organizations, Activity Guidelines; Policies Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students, the Student Group Conduct Code, and the University Alcohol Policy.

ʉۢ Organize ongoing training (quarterly) and information for live-in advisors, Alumni Chapter Advisors, House Corporation Board members, and Parents Support Organizations in: University policies, procedures and regulations regarding programming, safety, referrals, and resources.

ʉۢ Establishes and sustains collaborative working relations with campus departments including but not limited to: Residence Life, Campus Life Departments, Case Management Services, CAPS, University of California Police Department, etc.

ʉۢ Assist in the development of the unit's strategic planning for short and long-range goals.

ʉۢ Create a structure for ongoing assessments and develop strategies for implementation planning in conjunction with overall long term goals.

ʉۢ Assist House Corporation owned facilities meet Health and Safety standards annually.

ʉۢ Participating in the Student Affairs Mitigation Team and provide monitoring, presence and support (including enforcement of campus regulations and crowd control) for general University programming which relates to the fraternity and sorority community; Athletic events such as football and basketball games, and University sponsored programs such as Bruin Bash, Welcome Week, Spring Sing, etc.

ʉۢ Assist with the communication for chapter/council presidents, students, advisors, alumni, etc.

ʉۢ Participate in campus committees as assigned.

ʉۢ Participate in an on-call duty rotation to respond to critical matters within the Greek Community.

ʉۢ Assists with the maintenance of roster database.

ʉۢ Prepare reports, assessments, and correspondences as appropriate.

ʉۢ Perform a variety of duties as assigned in support of the Director.

ʉۢ This position is a responsible employee and CSA, required to report any disclosures of sexual violence to the Title IX Office and to make Clery reports of any alleged crimes to UCPD.
