POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Senior Stores Supervisor, this position supports essential operations within UCLA Receiving and provides backup functions for UCLA Mail Services. Major job functions include: (1) Receiving and delivering freight/packages/mail for campus departments and health care facilities; (2) Operating electronic pallet jack, vehicles, and mail processing equipment; (3) Processing outbound shipments/mail through vendor supplied systems documenting recharge codes and service types; (4) Assisting with customer inquiries concerning service levels, package tracking, and shipping requirements. Acting independently, interacting with customers throughout the Center for Health Sciences and campus providing daily delivery and pickup of critical Package services.

Parcels and Mail: 

ʉۢ Transport deliveries to designated departments using dollies, electric and no-electric pallet jacks, vans, and trucks.

ʉۢ Deliver mail and packages to the addressed recipient either by building and room or mail code.

ʉۢ Scan barcode and capture the electronic signature upon delivery utilizing handheld computer or utilize a manual signature for some services by route sheet.

ʉۢ Vehicle maintenance such as refueling, checking fluid levels, and general cleaning. Maintain vehicle cab in a neat, orderly, and safe.

ʉۢ Assist in the unpacking and delivery of large pieces of equipment such as furniture, refrigerators, and freezers utilizing electronic equipment such as pallet jacks.

ʉۢ Remove pallets, packaging, and shipping materials from the delivery location.

ʉۢ Provide customer service directly to end users in the tracking of expected packages utilizing scanners and/or computers.

ʉۢ Other delivery duties as assigned.

Shipment, Package, and Mail Handling

ʉۢ Move shipments/packages/mail from dock receiving area to proper staging area for delivery.

ʉۢ Sort shipments/packages/mail according to delivery routes.

ʉۢ Log shipments/packages/mail electronically or manually on delivery route sheets.

ʉۢ Load delivery carts and or vehicles.

ʉۢ Move perishables to cold storage area pending delivery.

ʉۢ Move computers and other valuable merchandise to secure caged area pending pick-up or delivery.

ʉۢ Operate electric pallet jack, dock lift plate, computers and scanners in the delivery of services.

ʉۢ Other shipment, package and mail handling duties as assigned.

Inbound Receiving

ʉۢ Record CHS and campus inbound shipments in daily receiving logs and/or scanners.

ʉۢ Check for correct number of pieces.

ʉۢ Check for apparent or possible concealed damage.

ʉۢ Check for complete delivery address.

ʉۢ Sign carriers' paperwork for receipt of goods.

ʉۢ Identify, mark, and sort perishable and time-sensitive freight.

ʉۢ Follow-up with departments on damaged goods coordinating re-orders as necessary.

ʉۢ Record USPS tracking numbers for trackable mail.

ʉۢ Other unspecified inbound receiving duties as assigned.

Outbound Shipping/Mailing

ʉۢ Pick-up shipments for outbound shipping per customer requests.

ʉۢ Ascertain that proper paperwork accompanies freight to allow for proper processing.

ʉۢ Process outbound packages based on service level requested and carrier identified. Utilize vendor supplied software (UPS or FedEx) or agnostic software such as WTS from Neopost.

ʉۢ Assist in preparation of outbound freight such as utilizing metal strapping machinery, plastic wrap, palletizing, or other package materials.

ʉۢ Other unspecified Outbound shipping/mailing duties as assigned.

Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles.
