Department Summary | The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures brings together a variety of disparate cultural and linguistic studies, both ancient and modern, into a vibrant interdisciplinary whole. In the NELC department, we make the past come alive. We make cultural studies of the Middle East relevant to undergraduate students and the greater community. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Research | Conducting research for the development of forthcoming academic publications using online databases and other resources to research and analyze relevant academic publications to compile bibliographies for coffin essays in Recycling for Death, volume 2, contracted by American University Press in Cairo. This work is relevant to the UCLA Coffins Project and will demand analysis, formatting and editing of coffin photos and the creation of infographics using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign software. Conducting research for forthcoming academic publications using online databases and other resources to research and analyze relevant publications to compile bibliographic work for Cooney’s contracted book on the Egyptian harem with Routledge Press, London. | 50% | Photo graphics | Conducting photographic documentation in Egypt in the tomb of Horemheb, demanding archaeological, philological and art historical training of New Kingdom ancient Egypt, as well as modern Egyptian language skills and knowledge of the Egyptian government and permissions system. Conducting Infrared photography, D-stretch photographic analysis, and other photographic analysis of tomb photos. | 50% | | | | | |
