SUPERVISION - Indicates that the incumbent performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.


POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the incumbent will perform molecular biology techniques, mammalian tissue culture, and animal (mouse) studies to assist with research projects on mammalian-cell engineering. The incumbent will also provide lab managerial support to place orders and update reagent and supply inventories, maintain laboratory safety compliance, and coordinate lab equipment maintenance and repair.


Department Summary

The MIMG department mission is to provide the highest quality research and education possible in the interdisciplinary fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics.  To meet this goal, we work together as scientists, educators and students to identify and address the most relevant problems in microbial pathogenesis and physiology, host cell biology and immune defense, and the host-pathogen interface.

Maintain Lab Reagent/Materials Inventories

1. Place and keep track of orders for laboratory supplies. (E) 2. Monitor and update lab inventories for plasmids, cell lines, viruses, and reagents such as antibodies. (E)  3.              Work with students to ensure all inventories are complete and up to date. (E)

Maintain Lab Cleanliness

1. Manage team of undergraduate research assistants by setting up their cleaning schedule and ensuring that all required tasks are performed correctly and in a timely manner. (E) 2.              Be responsible for overall laboratory cleanliness. (E)

Maintain Lab Safety and Safety Records

1. Serve as lab safety officer. (E) 2. Ensure all lab members follow proper safety guidelines. (E) 3. Ensure that chemical and biohazardous wastes are properly contained and disposed by ensuring that lab members follow appropriate guidelines. (E) 4.              Maintain lab safety binders and ensure all lab members' training records are up to date. (E)

Minimum two years of experience with mammalian tissue culture.

Ability to perform a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures at the full operational level in molecular biology.
