POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of Principal Investigator and/or supervisor, incumbent serves as a technician for research laboratory with a focus on cell metabolism research. Responsibilities include performing basic molecular biology techniques such as gene cloning, quantitative RT-PCR, Western Blot, microscopy, tissue culture, and biochemical assays; assisting with general laboratory maintenance. Other duties as assigned.


Department Summary

The MIMG department mission is to provide the highest quality research and education possible in the interdisciplinary fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. To meet this goal, we work together as scientists, educators and students to identify and address the most relevant problems in microbial pathogenesis and physiology, host cell biology and immune defense, and the host-pathogen interface.

Extract RNA and DNA from E.coli and mammalian cells.

Clone DNA fragments to lentiviral/retroviral vector.

Perform SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry.

Maintain cultures of cells using standard sterile techniques.

Maintain notebook of experiments performed and results obtained.

Present data to principal investigator and collaborators and participate in evaluation and interpretation of data.

Assist with Lab Maintenance

Maintain tissue culture room cleanliness and stock of basic supplies and reagent.

Notify senior lab supervisor of any equipment malfunction or in need of maintenance.  Maintain a high standard of lab cleanliness with attention to biohazards.
