POSITION SUMMARY | Under the supervision of the Sr. Educational Facility Planner (Manager) and/or Assistant Director(s), supervise and coordinate the work of the Carpentry Shop which includes Lead Carpenters, Carpenters, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers. In concert with Manager, responsible for full supervision, hiring, discipline, evaluation and termination of all shop employees who design, build, install, alter and/or repair cabinetry, rough carpentry and finish carpentry and related equipment and infrastructure carpentry. Review and coordinate daily schedules; review work and interface with client. Conduct job site assessment, prepare estimates; resolve project problems and ensure each job is closed and charged properly. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Project Management | 1. Oversee and coordinate the work of Lead Carpenters, Carpenters, Facilities Mechanic, and Facilities Workers who perform routine and system related projects on and off Campus worksites. (E) a. Ensure completion of project schedules and budgets. b. Coordinate project activities with Manager to ensure effective utilization of campus-wide resources. c. Assist in the development and review of project scope, schedule and budget with Manager and direct Lead and crew when authorization has been obtained. d. Initiate work request by identifying labor requirements and needs. e. Work with Lead Carpenters and ensure appropriate materials and equipment are ordered and appropriate authorizations are obtained. 2. Assist in the resolution of work related problems, delays in delivery of materials and equipment, unanticipated obstacles arising from project, changes in work scope, and problems with work quality control. (E) a. Assess and initiate appropriate remedies. b. Advise managers and if necessary the Assistant Director(s) and/or Director. c. Inspect projects to monitor on-going work, ensure work is proceeding according to previously agreed schedule and budget. d. Develop evaluative quality of service rendered, labor costs and overall cost effectiveness. e. Advise Manager and, if necessary, the Assistant Director(s) and/or Director of any issues. f. Recommend alternatives for future projects. | 50% | Supervision | 1. Hiring (E) a. Recruit, interview, select, hire, train and evaluate craft personnel in coordination with Manager, Assistant Director(s), Director, and Departmental and Personnel unit. b. Evaluate subordinates by communicating work expectations, feedback sessions, counseling, and performance evaluations. 2. Discipline (E) a. As necessary with the Manager resolve disputes, conflicts and problems as quickly as possible. b. Counsel employees on disciplinary matters and take appropriate action, with consultation with Manager, and if appropriate, Assistant Director(s), in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements. 3. Training / Awards (E) a. Provide Manager with recommendations and feedback regarding documentation on personnel actions (e.g. merits, on-the-spot awards, reclassifications, temporary promotions, and/or discipline). b. Evaluate and recommend training outside of University for employees. | 25% | Administrative | 1. Kronos (E) a. On a daily basis, review Kronos computerized timekeeping system and make appropriate edits. b. Consult with Lead Carpenters to verify timekeeping information. c. Process requests for vacation, sick leave, jury duty, family sick leave etc. 2. Provide daily input of data into Maximo's computerized project management system to produce various reports to determine status of projects. (E) 3. Conduct staff and safety meetings with Lead Carpenters, Carpenters, Facilities Mechanic, and Facilities Worker to provide safety training, leadership, direction, guidance, sharing of information etc. (E) 4. Assist Lead Carpenters with the control and use of materials supplies and equipment used by shop personnel. (E) 5. Attend weekly job meetings with Manager and other Leads to review current and future projects. (E) 6. Submit change orders in a timely manner on any estimated projects. (E) | 15% | Budget | 1. Utilizing Facilities Management computerized maintenance management system (Maximo) monitor expenditures of all projects. (E) a. Review project costs to avoid project overruns (materials and labor). b. Research projects (with Lead Carpenters) regarding cost issues. c.
