POSITION SUMMARY | The Security Supervisor will provide leadership on a daily basis to the career Housing Safety Ambassador team, which provides safety/security patrols and services for Housing & Hospitality owned residential properties. This position is responsible for the supervision of a 24/7 safety/security operations, including approximately 20-25 full-time direct reports. Primary responsibilities include achieving the short- and long-term goals of the department, ensuring compliance with protocols, policies, and procedures, managing the performance of duties and tasks, monitoring base station/security desk operations, running daily deployment meetings, facilitating critical communications to the staff and management, helping to manage and control department costs, providing training and proactive monitoring and reinforcement, ensuring proper staffing coverage, and responding to incidents and public inquiries, Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Security Staff Supervision & Operations | Security Staff Supervision and Operations A L Provide oversight of operational matters for approximately 20-25 full-time direct reports working in a 24/7 operational environment at multiple locations in which overnight shifts are required to be covered. Due to the 24/7 operational environment, supervision of some overnight shifts may be required. This includes managing workflow; ensuring that tasks are completed in a prioritized, timely, and satisfactory manner; providing leadership, direction, and guidance to staff to ensure productivity and a high level of security, safety, and customer service to staff and visitors. Provide performance feedback and assist department management in preparing annual evaluations of direct reports. Promote Safety Ambassador's adherence to established protocols and procedures by assisting department management and HR when necessary in gathering and preparing employee performance and investigatory information for disciplinary purposes and conducting corrective measures that may include disciplinary actions. Supervise work schedules and anticipate staffing shortages and problems across all shifts, including weekly work schedules, daily break schedules, post positions, and events, while controlling overtime and meeting event requirements. Monitor the day-to-day safety/security operations of the department to ensure compliance with established protocols, policies, and procedures, and proactively supervise Safety Ambassador staff in their performance of duties and tasks. Review submitted duty logs, inspections reports, and incident reports for accuracy, completeness, and detail to ensure they conform with departmental standards. Provide follow-up guidance for any corrective edits necessary. Submit any necessary maintenance work orders for deficiencies notes on such logs and reports. Monitor department equipment and assets (e.g. radios, vehicle, furniture) to ensure proper working condition. Submit repair requests to appropriate department as necessary to make repairs of any noted deficiencies. Assist department management with recruiting process by screening candidates and assisting during interviews in accordance with University policies and procedures. In conjunction with department management, help to monitor expenses in order to comply with the department's operating budget. Proactively assist in development, maintenance, and updating of the Department's safety/security policies and procedures. Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations. Responsibilities include helping, making critical decisions, and notifying appropriate department(s) or agencies as needed; conducting prompt investigations, generating incident reports in a timely manner, and following all other necessary incident response protocols. Ensure proper functioning of, maintain, and recommend changes or improvements to any department electronic security hardware/systems such as tap points, cameras, and radios. Work additional shifts as needed and assigned to cover call offs and late arrivals. Maintain a working knowledge of security, safety, and emergency preparedness best practices. Perform other duties as required and assigned by department management. | 50% | Training | Ensure that staff are trained and knowledgeable as to University policies and procedures, and departmental goals and objectives, including but not limited to how to handle security emergencies, performance management issues, and leave requests. Consistently train and monitor Safety Ambassador team across all shifts and posts in all established policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety protocols, and equipment usage and maintenance. Recommend professional development for staff. Plan, research, and conduct daily deployment training sessions on all aspects of security. Rigorously, proactively, and continuously enforce and reinforce staff training and department standards beyond initial deployment training. Monitor and document completion of daily and periodic training by security staff across all shifts, including tracking delivery and receipt/acknowledgement of training, and submitting written verification of training to security management on a weekly basis and as assigned. Participate in all safety/security training, including but not limited to drills, sessions, courses, seminars, updates, and certifications; training areas may include general security and safety, fire, earthquake, evacuation, first aid, and other emergencies.
