POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Data Analyst 2 supports the full lifecycle of a community-engaged environmental health research study at the Carceral Ecologies lab, applying acquired skills in research data analysis, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement to assignments of moderate scope and complexity. Working within generally defined practices and policies, the successful candidate will oversees project administration — including timelines, and deliverables— while maintaining and developing data gathering, retrieval, and reporting systems that ensure study milestones are met. The position serves as the primary liaison between the research team and a constellation of external sub-grantees, contracted partners, and community organizations, coordinating technical assistance, reviewing deliverables, and facilitating cross-site convenings to promote accountability and shared learning. The analyst cultivates equitable, community-centered partnerships, facilitates community stakeholder engagement activities, and ensures research activities remain responsive to community needs and priorities. Additionally, the role recruits, trains, and supervises undergraduate research assistants, providing mentorship in research methods and data collection, and supports dissemination efforts by preparing accessible policy briefs, fact sheets, and presentations tailored to policymakers and public health audiences.


Department Summary

The UCLA Institute for Society and Genetics is a Center for Interdisciplinary Instruction (CII) within the Division of Life Sciences. The department consists of 20+ faculty, 7 operational staff, lecturers, academic apprentices, postdoctoral scholars, national and international researchers, and 6 fully staffed life science laboratories (2 wet labs, and 4 social science labs), and the Human Biology and Society Major (B.A. & B.S.) and Society and Genetics Minor program.

Oversees aspects of project coordination, including the development and maintenance of detailed project plans, tracking systems, and data management logs in compliance with sponsor and university requirements

Sub-Grantee, Contractor & Community Partnership Coordination

Serves as a key point of contact for external sub-grantees, contracted partners, and community organizations, facilitating communication, data sharing, and accountability across all parties. Monitors sub-grantee progress against scope-of-work agreements, reviews invoices and deliverables, and coordinates technical assistance as needed in collaboration with UCLA's contracts and grants office. Cultivates trusting, equitable relationships with community partners, facilitates advisory board meetings and stakeholder convenings, and acts as a liaison to ensure research activities are culturally responsive and aligned with community needs and priorities.

Dissemination & Policy Engagement

Prepares accessible summaries of study findings, policy briefs, fact sheets, and presentation materials tailored to non-academic audiences including policymakers and public health officials. Supports the planning and coordination of stakeholder convenings, policy roundtables, and community dissemination events to maximize the study's impact on public health policy and practice.

Recruits, trains, and supervises undergraduate research assistants, assigning tasks such as literature reviews, data entry, and participant coordination, while providing regular mentorship and performance feedback to support student development and research productivity.
