POSITION SUMMARY | As a member of the TDG team, the Industry Research and Material Transfer Associate provides a wide-range of services related to research programs funded by industry, or supported by transfer of research materials. These services include negotiating basic research contracts, providing on-going administrative management support during the term of a contract, facilitating the close-out of such contracts, and providing support to Industry Research Officer. Incumbent must master a wide range of complex operational and administrative matters related to the review, negotiation, and processing of research contracts; and support the Industry Research and Material Transfer Officers, Assistant Director and Director with the same. Must serve as a point of contact for department administrative personnel and faculty members in a proactive and exceedingly professional manner. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Contract Summarization and Processing | 1. Supports Industry Research and Material Transfer Officer through the review, summarization, and processing of certain research contracts, including preparation of a summary of essential terms and conditions for distribution to the faculty member and specified department personnel, working closely with appropriate research administration personnel. (E) 2. Maintains data integrity and develops expertise with electronic records and other systems related to industry research and material transfer contracts. (E) 3. Responds to requests for information from department personnel and industry representatives regarding contracting procedures, concepts, deadlines, budgets, and other requirements related to securing and negotiating research and material transfer contracts. (E) | 15% | Contract Summarization and Processing | 4. Builds and maintains relationships with relevant personnel in campus financial services and research administration departments. (E) 6. (E) | 15% | Negotiation and Execution of Basic Research Contracts | 1. Maintains a contract workload negotiating, executing, and administering certain basic research contracts on behalf of The Regents of the University of California. Under the direction and with the support of Industry Contract and Material Transfer Officer, Assistant Director, and Director, reviews sponsored research, material transfer and confidentiality contracts to ensure that terms and conditions protect the University's and faculty member's rights, adequately address the responsibilities of both parties, and are consistent with University policies and/or objectives. (E) 2. Maintains data integrity of electronic records related to industry research and material transfer proposals and contracts. (E) | 25% | Post-Award Support and Contractual Modifications | 1. Serves as liaison to campus financial services to coordinate consideration and resolution of financial issues related to industry-sponsored research contracts. (E) 2. Under the direction and with the support of the Industry Contract and Material Transfer Officer, Assistant Director, and Director, manages review, negotiation, and execution of contractual modifications. (E) 3. Assists faculty members and department personnel to ensure prompt closeout of contracts. Works with industry sponsors to resolve any outstanding issues such as final accounting and payments, delivery of reports or data, review of research outcomes, and reporting of any inventions for patentability. Assists in the management of training workshops, including a schedule of classrooms, confirmation emails to scheduled attendees, reproduction of training materials, and set-up and clearing of the classroom.
