POSITION SUMMARY

As part of a five-person team, oversee the management of $5–7 million in operating and extramural funds for the MCDB Group within the department. Collaborate with multiple faculty members to develop grant proposals, including budget preparation, while ensuring compliance with agency policies and guidelines. Provide strategic financial guidance, manage reporting, and generate projections to support effective decision-making.

The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology advances our knowledge of life on earth at the cellular and molecular levels. Our faculty conducts research with a variety of models including Arabidopsis, Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse and stem cells to address the most pressing problems in biology, health and sustainability.

A1. Administers a portfolio of $5–7M in operating and extramural funds for assigned departments. (E)

A2. Interprets fund and award terms and conditions; ensures compliance with University and sponsor regulations. (E)

A3. Coordinates establishment and maintenance of financial accounts with central campus units (e.g., EFM, General Accounting). (E)

A4. Prepares and processes contract and grant transactions and documentation in accordance with institutional and sponsor requirements. (E)

A5. Reviews and approves financial transactions (e.g., purchasing, reimbursements) for allowability, allocability, and fund availability. (E)

A6. Monitors and analyzes financial activity, including expenditures, commitments, and trends; identifies issues and recommends corrective action. (E)

A7. Performs ledger reconciliation and initiates financial adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance. (E)

A8. Analyzes payroll and personnel costs; develops projections and recommends budget strategies. (E)

A9. Prepares financial reports, forecasts, and projections to support departmental and faculty decision-making. (E)

A10. Provides guidance to faculty and leadership on financial status, policy interpretation, and fund management. (E)

A11. Facilitates sponsor-related actions (e.g., rebudgets, no-cost extensions, supplements) and prepares supporting documentation. (E)

A12. Manages award closeout and develops tools and reports to support financial tracking and business processes. (E)

B1. Provides guidance to faculty and staff on proposal requirements, including sponsor guidelines, formatting, and application materials. (E)

B2. Interprets sponsor policies and advises faculty on proposal strategy, structure, and budget development. (E)

B3. Develops and prepares proposal budgets in compliance with University and sponsor regulations. (E)

B4. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., human subjects, animal use, recombinant DNA, radiation); assists with related documentation and submissions. (E)

B5. Reviews and analyzes proposals for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to sponsor and institutional requirements; recommends revisions as needed. (E)

B6. Prepares and routes proposal documentation (e.g., EPASS) and secures required institutional approvals. (E)

B7. Coordinates the assembly and submission of proposals, ensuring compliance with deadlines and submission requirements. (E)

B8. Serves as liaison with internal units and external sponsors to facilitate timely submission and address proposal-related inquiries. (E)
