POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Director, Marina Aquatic Center is responsible for managing and coordinating UCLA Recreation's boating programs and the operations  of the Marina Aquatic Center. Responsibilities include the development and management of a comprehensive program of instructional classes, rental programs, management of the junior rowing program, as well as the maintenance and oversight of the facility and all boating equipment. The Program Director, Marina Aquatic Center supervises five full time staff - four program coordinators and a maintenance technician


Department Summary

UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 90 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events.

1. Manage a comprehensive boating and water safety program for adults, youth, and various user groups.

2. Implement and develop program and facility policies and procedures for the safe operation of all program and facility elements, including collaboration with maintenance staff on inspections and maintenance as needed.

3. Review participation data on a quarterly basis and adjust programs to meet needs of University and participants.

4. Prepare, write, and edit necessary forms, handouts and other related written materials for distribution to participants.

5. Work with student-organizers, club sailing and rowing coaches, and Athletics coaches on facility and event scheduling, facility and equipment policies, and training needs.

6. Work with UCLA Facilities to plan and schedule facility maintenance and improvements.

7. Serve as liaison to CA State Parks, Division of Boating and Waterways. Procure funding through the Aquatic Center Grant process, working with UCLA Office of Contracts and Grants to comply with all University policies.

8. Serve as liaison to LA County Department of Beaches and Harbors, and work with UCLA Real Estate on all lease and use permits.

9. Serve as liaison to Marina del Rey Lessees Association and attend monthly meetings.

1. Supervise full-time staff, including Marina Supervisor, Youth Program Coordinator, Staff Operations and Training Coordinator, Maintenance Technician, and Head Coach, Junior Rowing.

2. Perform human resource needs for full-time staff which includes performance evaluations, goal setting, and organizational operations.

3. Oversee subordinates in the selection of other staff to include facility staff, instructors, and coaches.

4. Provide training sufficient to orient personnel to their duties, the goals and objectives of the programs and the department, the policies and procedures of the university, and the rules and guidance of the supervision of activities.

5. Serve as a resource to staff on national and local governing body guidelines.

6. Review and submit time and attendance of career employees in TRS.

7. Conduct progress reviews with subordinate staff periodically. Conduct annual performance evaluations within timelines established by department.

Administration

1. Reconcile accounts on a monthly basis, work with coordinators and coaches to ensure expenses and income have been appropriately project coded.

2. Review and process recharges for expense and income.

3. Review and approve expenditures via PAC request, Travel Express, or Bruin Buy.

4. Work with Department staff to forecast the unit budget, as well as analyze new program opportunities.

5. Develop operating plans for the unit, translating unit and department goals into the budget and cultivating solutions for resource needs.

Marketing and

Public Relations

1. Collaborate with Marketing Unit to develop promotional and marketing materials, including print, electronic and web communications.

2. Oversee the production of bulletin boards and other visual displays; develop multi-media presentations for group programs or other public forums.

3. Review and evaluate ongoing promotional strategies and initiate new and innovative approaches as appropriate.

4. Review and communicate participation trends to Marketing staff to better inform strategic marketing objectives.
