POSITION SUMMARY | The incumbent will serve as the Senior Project Manager for the Biobehavioral Assessment Research Center (BARC). S/he will coordinate the Center's training programs and research studies. The duties include but are not limited to conducting and supervising data collection, survey and database development and management, developing/managing Institutional Review Board documents and NIH reports for research studies. Budget and financial management of studies is also required. The project manager will be required to coordinate internally across UCLA departments and schools as well as externally including community collaborators, external agencies such as commercial labs, and international partners. The specific responsibilities will include: (1) set up contracts and with outside organization for study related activities such as laboratory testing, or participant recruitment; (2) conduct and oversee recruitment and enrollment for at least two studies including studies in global health settings; (3) draft study related materials including SOPs, recruitment materials, human subject materials, and data collection tools; (4) conduct trainings for graduate students and collaborating staff on study protocols; (5) and assist in data collection activities including the conduct of qualitative surveys, oversight of participant self-administered survey tools, and data management. This project manager will conduct these duties in as part of a number of state and federally funded studies, as well as other ancillary pilot studies and studies the Center collaborates on. The Program Manager may manage the day-to-day activities of support staff and/or graduate student researchers (GSR) working on BARC projects including financial management, submitting invoices and receipts for reimbursements and will have all decisions and meetings approved by her/his supervisors, the BARC Executive Directors. She is now supervising and training junior staff as well as graduate students on all projects. She is also now handling financial management and budgeting. The incumbent also provides high level support on proposal development and is in charge of submitting clinical trial documents as well as reports to the NIH on studies. Finally this staff member supports and leads the writing of scientific manuscripts. | | | |
Department Summary | The Epidemiology department in the Fielding School of Public Health is a national leader in preparing a new generation of epidemiologists. Through specialized methodologies, epidemiologists identify, track, and analyze how diseases and other conditions are caused, transmitted, and prevented, as well as how they are distributed throughout the population. Such information plays a critical role in guiding policies and other evidence-based strategies to promote health and work toward health equity. The vital importance of epidemiologic research was highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, in which epidemiologists have helped to track outbreaks and provide guidance on how the virus spreads in community settings. |

Communicate with the supervisors, co-investigators, and affiliated researchers involved in BARC activities to assure compliance with policies, inform of new procedures, make data requests, follow up on peripheral protocols, etc. 3. Monitor continuity and consistency of training program curriculum and communications 4. Promote and maintain ongoing communication with training program faculty and other research partners 5. Represent the training programs to the community, government and other organizations requesting information about the programs 6. Ongoing communication with other research and training programs in order to share best practices 7. Ongoing communication with department, school and university admissions offices to address any issues that arise with trainee program applications.
