GENERAL DIRECTION - Indicates that the incumbent receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work, and typically formulates policy for this area but does not necessarily have final authority for approving policy.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Academic Programs Manager plays a critical role in the administration, evaluation, and continuous improvement of academic programs within the UCLA Joe C. Wen School of Nursing. This position requires deep familiarity with the School's unique curriculum, policies, systems (including Bruin Learn), and existing infrastructure - along with trusted relationships across academic leadership. The Academic Programs Manager will possess direct experience with UCLA School of Nursing programs and be capable of independently managing complex, cross-functional academic processes. The Academic Programs Manager reports directly to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Curriculum Planning & Evaluation

â—Ź Oversee and drive the coordination and tracking of curricular changes across undergraduate and graduate programs, including centralized management of core academic documents such as the Student and Faculty Handbooks, to prepare and produce reports for accrediting bodies.

â—Ź Support implementation of competency-based education (CBE), curriculum mapping, rubric tracking, and program evaluations; standardize syllabi across all programs

â—Ź Advise faculty and staff on program sequencing, assessment design, and curriculum alignment.

â—Ź Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure academic programs comply with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements, including conducting internal audits, preparing reports, and participating in accreditation processes.

â—Ź Ensure accurate application of University, AACN, and BRN standards across all curricular updates.

â—Ź Support Curriculum Committee and all associated curriculum changes/revisions/additions through the details of the academic affairs process for courses moving through to approved status by the deadline and interacting with Murphy Hall, DGE, UGE and UCLA processes.

â—Ź Assist in developing required reports for academic accreditation including: Academic Senate Reviews, CCNE reports and BRN reports.

â—Ź Partner with student affairs and academic leadership to proactively address student support, advisement, retention, and accommodations.

Program Development & Coordination

â—Ź Collaborate with program directors, clinical coordinators, and faculty to develop, maintain, and enhance academic programs, policies, and procedures that align with the School of Nursing’s mission, BRN, and AACN standards.

â—Ź Manage curriculum revisions and academic documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.

â—Ź Manage onboarding, orientation, and ongoing support for faculty by managing and leveraging Bruin Learn program sites.

â—Ź Serve on the SON AI Advisory Council as lead staff to support integration of artificial intelligence in curriculum delivery—enhancing teaching capacity and improving program effectiveness amid limited physical and technological resources.

â—Ź Lead process improvements in conjunction with program directors, in response to recurring operational pain points, such as redesigning tools to reduce student grievances and support equitable access.

Minimum of 10 years of administrative experience at a higher education institution, preferably within the School of Nursing or directly affiliated academic unit.
