POSITION SUMMARY | Working under the direction of the direct supervisor, the Project and Policy Analyst 2 will prioritize workflow and will follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Team meetings and frequent interaction with direct course and pace of work. The Senior Research Analyst (SRA) position will lead climate projects at the UCLA Labor Center. The SRA will manage projects and collaborate on all aspects of the research process, including the research design, workplan, methodology and instrument development, data collection procedures, analysis, and reporting. The SRA is expected to review professional literature in the field as needed and report on findings related to topics of interest, including best practices. The SRA will also collaborate with external partners and expand the Labor Center's research capacity through staff training. We are looking for an SRA with a strong commitment to research justice. | | | |
Department Summary | The UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education, Downtown Labor Center conducts research on issues related to labor and employment. The Labor Center's research, policy and educational initiatives serve to inform a diverse group of stakeholders: workers, community organizers, policy makers, educators, labor leaders, students, and elected officials. The Labor Center carries out research on topics such as labor and workplace conditions, and works with community-based organizations, unions, government, policy institutes and employers to develop innovative policy perspectives and programs. It also provides an important source of research and information on worker centers, unions and the changing workforce for students, scholars, policymakers and the public. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Project Management, Research Design, and Coordination | Manage all aspects of climate research projects, including meeting with project staff to develop a workplan and project roles and responsibilities. Conceive and design research projects. Manage research coordination and methodology design. Prepare human subjects (IRB) applications and establish research timelines and staffing plans. Coordinate and participate in fielding and data collection efforts. Train staff on research methodologies, data analysis, and evaluation frameworks. Oversee graduate and undergraduate students' work on research tasks and data analysis. Develop training guides on data management, data analysis and writing guidelines. | 45% | Data Collection and Analysis | Develop and finalize research protocols. Conduct surveys, interviews, focus groups, literature reviews, and analyze labor market data. Develop coding systems, codebooks, data cleaning plans and prepare data for analysis using Dedoose, excel, SPSS, R, or other data analysis programs. Create maps using ArcGIS or other web-based mapping applications. Prepare metadata for research projects (description of data files, syntax directory, data dictionaries). Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets. Prepare write-ups summarizing findings for collective review. Maintain databases and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
