POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager has full responsibility and accountability for managing renovation, repair, alteration and design projects for the Chemistry & Biochemistry department under the direction of the CAO and Vice Chair of Space and Operations in partnership with the Director of Operations. Take the lead role in projects from inception through completion and diligently initiates, monitors, and follows through all related activities to ensure work adequately reflects the Department's needs and is executed in a continuous and prompt manner within the project budget. The role encompasses not only renovation, repair, alteration, and design projects, but also broader departmental operational efforts.

A1. Has responsibility and accountability for managing a portfolio of projects including facilities-related efforts (renovation, repair, alteration, and design) as well as broader operational initiatives such as projects pertaining to departmental S&S operations, inventory optimization for research cores and instructional programs, and process improvement efforts.

A2. Takes lead role in project from inception through completion and, in

consultation with the CAO, diligently initiates, monitors, and

follows through on all related activities to ensure work adequately reflects the department's needs and is executed in a continuous and prompt manner within the proposed budget.

A3. Partners with faculty, staff, and campus units to identify operational needs, develop scalable solutions, and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

A4. Utilizes project management tools (e.g. Smartsheet) to track project timelines, milestones, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring transparency and accountability across stakeholders.

Fiscal Management

B1. Develops project budget estimates based on schematic designs for CAO and Chair approval. Presents the documents using effective communication and presentation techniques to fully understand the extent of work, financial obligations and any related impacts on current and future operations.

 

B2. Solicits and negotiates fees for design development and construction

documents from and with consultants.

 

B3. Reviews budget at key intervals to ensure sufficient funding available to execute scope of work.

 

B4. Oversees progress payments to ensure timely payment to contractors, and vendors in partnership with the purchasing team.
