POSITION SUMMARY | Under the general supervision of the Department Manager and the Supervisor/Lead, incumbent is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality. The incumbent inspects and maintains painted exterior and interior painted surfaces, trimming and fixtures of buildings and other related structures and facilities. Use premixed paints or custom prepared paints; apply wood finishes (new and/or old surfaces) and appropriately prepare surfaces. Perform repairs to drywall, plastered surfaces and stucco. Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of airless and conventional spray equipment. Cover interior walls and ceilings of offices and related facilities with wallpaper or fabrics. Discuss jobs with supervisor in order to keep apprised of job progress and resolve any problems related to the job. Submit completed work orders to supervisor. Provide direction to semi-skilled or unskilled workers. Maintain accurate hours on each job; operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment of the trade; follow established safety procedures; clean up job site and return equipment and tools. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | SURFACE PREPARATION | Mask or cover surfaces, walls, floors, furniture and fixtures for on site work; remove fixtures, as necessary. Remove damaged surface: existing paint, varnish, stain, using scrapers, sanding tools, paint remover, wire brushes prior to surface repairs. Clean, degrease surface with appropriate detergents, solvents. Fill voids, cracks, joints with plasters, appropriate compounds. Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, sanding tools, wire brushes or steel wool. Use aerial platforms if necessary to perform above. | 40% | APPLICATION | Apply primer/paint to new/old surfaces with brush, roller, conventional or airless sprayer as appropriate. Apply stain/varnish to new/old wood with brush, roller, conventional or airless sprayer as appropriate. Use aerial platforms if necessary to perform above. Other duties as assigned. | 40% | MATERIAL PREPARATION AND CLEAN-UP | Select premixed paints to match existing area or color recommendations. Prepare paints to match specified colors with desired viscosity by mixing pigments, thinning solvents and drying substances. Assemble paint tools, sundries, masking material. Ensure all materials, machines, equipment are in safe operating condition. Maintain on site and in shop safety; ensure established pathways are unobstructed and signage alerting hazards is clearly posted. Remove all equipment, material, debris from on site area upon job completion.
