POSITION SUMMARY

Under direction of the Paint Manager, apply coats of latex paint, varnish, stain, enamel, and lacquer to decorate and protect interior and/or exterior surfaces, including building trim and fixtures. Repair and patch holes and cracks, and prepare surfaces for paint and/or other coatings. Select and mix paint, and select, assemble, and clean related equipment. Supervise seasonal contracted paint crews of up to twenty-four employees. Other duties as assigned. This is a Limited Appointment position.

APPLICATION

Apply paint, primer, or other coating, using a brush or roller as appropriate, to various surfaces, including wood, drywall, plaster and concrete. Apply paint, primer, or other coating, using a brush or roller as appropriate, to various surfaces, including wood, drywall, plaster and concrete utilizing a ladder, scaffold or swing stage. Apply bleach, stain, or varnish, using a brush and/or other tools as appropriate, to various wood surfaces, utilizing proper wood finishing techniques. Apply coatings to various surfaces utilizing a conventional or airless sprayer.

MATERIAL PREPARATION/CLEAN UP

Select pre-mixed paints, stains, and/or varnish to match existing areas and/or to meet established project specifications. Prepare paints, stains, and/or varnish to match specified colors by mixing portions of pigment, oil, thinning, and drying substances. Determine and assemble appropriate brushes, rollers, drop cloths, spray equipment, etc. Ensure that all materials, machines, and equipment are in safe working condition. Transport all supplies, equipment, and materials to job site. Maintain safety during completion of projects by ensuring that pathways remain unobstructed and that hazard warnings are clearly audible and/or visible. Remove all equipment, materials, and other obstructions from job site upon project completion. Clean rollers, brushes, sprayers, and other related equipment. Pick up supplies, equipment, and materials from local-area vendors on an as-needed basis.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove existing paint using paint remover, scrapers, and/or wire brushes as needed. Repair and patch holes, cracks or joints in plaster, drywall, or concrete surfaces, using putty, plaster, cement, or other fillers as necessary to obtain a uniform surface. Smooth surfaces using sand paper, brushes, and/or steel wool. Prep surfaces with soap, alcohol, stripping, or other compound as necessary to ensure proper adherence of paint, varnish, or other specified coating. Mask off or cover fixtures, furniture, walls, or other surfaces as necessary to protect from paint, cleaning or stripping compounds, or other materials or debris.  Remove fixtures, switch plates, and other hardware as needed.
