POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Optometry Services Manager, the Optometrist, provides direct optometric services of comprehensive eye exams and contact lens fittings to UCLA students.

Our comprehensive services include Primary Care, Gynecology Services, Immunizations, Travel Medicine, Physical Therapy, Specialty Clinics, Radiology & Laboratory, and Acupuncture – all under one roof! We are also pleased to offer additional services in the Ackerman Student Union: a full-service optometry center, U See LA Optometry, and the Bruin Health Pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Optometric Services

Performs within the scope of his/her optometric license to provide professional services of comprehensive eye exams (including pupil dilations) and contact lens (hydrogel and rigid gas permeable) fittings. Thoroughly records history and clinical findings so that another optometrist can continue with care if necessary. Diagnoses and prescribes treatments as necessary to restore and maintain ocular integrity.  Works with the optician to provide optician guidance in ordering frames, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses for patients. Assist patients in the selection and dispensing of frames, spectacle lenses, and contact lenses if the optician is unavailable. Refers patients to the Jules Stein Eye Institute for additional testing/evaluations when necessary. In the absence of the optician, perform optician tasks; assist patients in selection and dispensing of frames, spectacle lenses, and CLs; neutralize RGP lenses; assist patients with check in by providing appropriate consent forms; answer phone calls using judgment to discern appropriate routing or problem resolution. Provide accurate, clear and appropriate instructions to patients regarding ophthalmic/contact lens care. Document all orders in EPIC (electronic medical record) for optician. Enter billing charges and provide receipts/rebates appropriately.

Reporting and Background Check Requirements

Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.

Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.

Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.

TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
