POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Learning Centers Manager, the Principal Producer (PP) assumes supervisory responsibilities for music production and residential video operations sponsored through the UCLA Residential Life (RL). In addition to the listed responsibilities, the (PP) will provide guidance, coordination, and advice for production implementation, along with oversight of the inventory, storage, maintenance, and management of Learning Center Studio production equipment, and address staff personnel issues.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Administration

Coordinate and supervise video LC video project production, manage Social Media content, and implement systems for maintaining production equipment in the Learning Center Multimedia Space and Studio. Maintain and update operational documents, including inventory, repair plans, and usage reports. Collaborate with affiliated video production groups, aid with equipment research and purchases, and promote Learning Centers’ and Residential Life’s programs. Review student staff timesheets, check studio budgets, attend assigned meetings, and ensure Studio policies align with university protocols. Oversee the sale, storage, and disposal of studio equipment, take part in committees, and perform other duties as assigned.

Students Supervision/Staffing

Coordinate the hiring and training of student supervisors and production team members. Supervise the Learning Center Multimedia Space and Studio student team, manage schedules, and resolve staffing issues. Support the development and recognition of student staff. Review and submit bi-weekly student staff timesheets. Oversee content productions to ensure quality and alignment with Residential Life principles. Develop and implement an emergency response plan for managed spaces. Manage student staff uniform ordering. Perform other assigned duties. Supervise the quality and output of video production. Oversee scheduling to maximize facility and resource use.

Equipment Maintenance

Schedule, monitor, and document quarterly maintenance checks of production equipment. Supervise, assess, and implement necessary repairs for studio and Residential Life resources. Perform minor equipment repairs and cleanings safely. Coordinate repairs with campus and external vendors, including equipment transport. Recommend and, with supervisor approval, authorize repair estimates.

Acquisition

Monitor and assess equipment needs for the Learning Center Studio and Residential Life. Research costs, options, and functionality of potential purchases. Recommend and implement equipment acquisitions, completing required paperwork, insurance, and inventory of supplies. Coordinate purchase, installation, and integration of studio systems. Recommend AV and facility design renovations. Facilitate rental of technical equipment to support video production.

Media Facilitation

Train student staff to support the multimedia space and studio and maintain a creative collective of hundreds of students in photo, video, music, and graphic design. Stay current in production practices across these fields and lead workshops on equipment use, while training student staff to facilitate workshops as well. Collect data on workshop attendance, program participation, equipment checkouts, project outputs, and overall space usage.
