POSITION SUMMARY | The Lead Mason is responsible for providing support to properties managed by UCLA Housing & Hospitality. The Lead Mason will serve as a working lead over Mason's and Facilities Mechanics and will be responsible for General Masonry for preventative and predictive maintenance programs and repairs, installation of new work as directed. Assist the manager to oversee the work performance of the staff in regards to customer service, quality of workmanship, and quantity of work performed. This position is also responsible for assisting the manager as required to supervise work of outside contractors to ensure that all work is performed in a cost effective manner with special consideration to customer service and regularly changing priorities. The Lead Mason will interact with various department contacts and UCLA personnel while performing duties and will be required to maintain a courteous and professional manner at all times. The Lead Mason will perform the work of a Mason, in addition to transmitting orders and explaining tasks to co-workers and performs record keeping and ordering functions. Lead Mason will need to operate a University Vehicle and travel to various locations for transporting equipment and completing repairs. The Mason shall perform masonry, plastering, and painting repair work. Construct, maintain, and repair concrete forms, and perform stucco and brick laying work as needed. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | OPERATIONS | Conduct daily pre-shift meeting of Masons and Facilities Mechanics. Apprise them of the daily workload, special projects, and announcements. Perform full range of duties required of a journey person Mason in order to complete part or all of a given project. Prioritize work projects and assign work orders. Visit job sites and discuss project status with the team to determine progress, accuracy, and quality of workmanship and assess progress in relation to time schedules; correct problems on-site. Coordinate and discuss all aspects of project with client; planning, scheduling (often multi-shop), and progress of project; resolve client concerns and issues. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls by assigning appropriate personnel, taking into consideration the master project schedule which may include multi-craft involvement. Under the direction of Management , Inspect the work of outside contractors to ensure compliance with University and Departmental guidelines. | 30% | MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR | Evaluate extent of repair, determine appropriate corrective measures. Provide worker or work crew with job instructions including materials and equipment to be used and time schedule in which the job should be completed. Monitor job performance of the team and provide input related to same to supervisor. Read an interpret blueprints; report discrepancies in existing blueprints to supervisor in order to keep existing as-builds as current as possible. Orally discuss jobs with supervisor on a daily basis in order to keep supervisor apprised of job progress, job performance of the team, and to resolve any problem(s) related to the job. | 30% | INSTALLATION AND MODIFICATION | Report discrepancies in existing blueprints to supervisor in order to keep existing as-built as current as possible. Complete Material Order forms and submit to supervisor for approval. (E) 9. Order materials and supplies from information provided on estimate or work request with supervisor's approval. Maintain records of material ordered; verify materials received; forward packing slips/requisition to your supervisor. Document repair work completed in appropriate records/logs. Following inspection of the job, return completed work request to supervisor. Train the team in proper methods and practices in order for them to satisfactorily complete job function. | 30% | GENERAL TASKS | Maintain accurate hours worked on each job. Operate and maintain a variety of power and/or hand tools and equipment related to the trade. Ensure and transport materials, equipment, and personnel to and from job site expeditiously. Follow established safety procedures at all times including inspecting tools and equipment for signs of damage, malfunction, or deterioration on a regular basis. Upon completion of work, clean up job site and return equipment, materials, tools, radios, pagers, and Kronos wands to designated storage areas.
