POSITION SUMMARY

Under close supervision of Research Professor Emerita Olga T. Yokoyama, the employee will (1) transcribe into English script Chinese calligraphic scrolls, (2) translate them into English, and (3) provide accompanying information about the authors of these texts. The product of this work will be used by Professor Yokoyama for her research project.


Department Summary

Under the administrative purview of the Rolfe/Campbell Humanities Group, which also oversees the Spanish & Portuguese Department, the Linguistics Department focuses on the scientific study of language in all aspects and houses three laboratories in phonetics, language processing, and language acquisition. The Linguistics Department consists of faculty, postdoctoral scholars, visiting researchers, language consultants, graduate/undergraduate students, and administrative and academic staff, and offers robust programs toward graduate degrees, undergraduate degrees, and language learning in American Sign Language and Swahili.

 

Research Professor Emerita Olga T. Yokoyama maintains affiliation as an emeritus faculty member of the now closed Applied Linguistics Department, which falls under the umbrella of the Linguistics Department. Her current research project is in the area of historical documentation at the crossroads of China and Japan.
