POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of a PI at The Shapiro Family Laboratory of Viral Oncology and Aging Research, the Laboratory Assistant will support ongoing research projects involving primary human cells and molecular/biochemical assays. The selected candidate must be proficient in in vitro cell culture, RT PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining, and FACS. Prior experience with mouse studies is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

EXPERIMENTATION/ RESEARCH

1. Perform in vitro cell culture, including maintenance and experimentation with primary human cells.

2. Conduct RT PCR for gene expression analysis.

3. Perform Western blotting for protein detection and quantification.

4. Perform immunohistochemical (IHC) and immunofluorescent (IF) staining for cellular and tissue analysis.

5. Conduct flow cytometry (FACS) experiments for cell population characterization.

6. Participate in mouse studies, including handling and experimental procedures

7. Record all experimental procedures and maintain accurate research documentation.

8. Review data with the supervising faculty member, assist in report preparation, and present findings at lab meetings.

LABORATORY MANAGEMENT

1. Autoclaving and organization of lab supplies.

2. Maintain lab databases, sample inventories, and lab databases as needed.

3. Assist in ordering lab supplies and reagents.

4. Support the overall operational needs of the laboratory to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
