POSITION SUMMARY | The Lab Assistant works with the Principal Investigator(PI), Co- PI and graduate student researchers to coordinate and support studies of predictors of treatment outcome within the context of the UCLA Psychology Clinic by managing data collection, developing and maintaining data bases including electronic health records, and providing data analysis in various programs including Excel, and SPSS. Provides in-depth phone screening to assess mental health history and eligibility for participation in the Clinic; acts as a liaison with psychological patients, their family members, treatment providers, faculty, and graduate students; manages scheduling of clinical research participants and assists with the management of the day-to-day operation of the laboratory including scheduling and managing phone calls and email inquiries. | | | |
Department Summary | The UCLA Department of Psychology is an exceptional department known for its excellence in research, teaching, and service. With a distinguished faculty comprising more than 60 ladder rank members, it is one of the nation's top psychology departments. Its undergraduate program is the largest within the Division of Life Sciences and the UCLA College, with nearly 5,000 undergraduate students enrolled across three majors: Psychology, Psychobiology, and Cognitive Science and two minor programs, Applied Developmental Psychology and Youth Behavioral Health Program. The department also offers a comprehensive Ph.D. program with eight areas of study to approximately 200 enrolled graduate students. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Data Collection with Human Subjects | A1. Administer laboratory protocols including measures of clinical symptoms, treatment outcome, and treatment process. Prepare and score research data for analysis. Perform data entry and cleaning. Complete basic statistical analyses, using web-based data management programs and statistical computing programs. A2. Conduct comprehensive telephone screenings with callers regarding psychiatric and medical history to assess eligibility and treatment needs. Enter participant data into web-based programs and research databases, and schedule initial sessions or provide appropriate referrals as needed. A3. Maintain compliance with IRB procedures and assist in the preparation of IRB applications and renewals. A4. Organize research materials, including questionnaires and clinician forms, and distribute to clients and students at the appropriate time points. A5. Serve as a liaison for psychological patients, their family members, treatment providers, graduate students, faculty, and collaborators at other universities. Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all individuals. A6. Maintain and update large databases in Point and Click (an electronic health record), Excel, SPSS, and other programs. A7.
