POSITION SUMMARY | The Pre-College Program Coordinator will perform high-level programmatic duties and interface with students, teacher and principals from local schools, MESA Statewide staff, Samueli leadership, faculty, and staff, to effectively implement initiatives leading to the achievement of department objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for program coordination of the CEED pre-college Programs: Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement (MESA) and Mathematics Achievement Program (MAP), managing middle and high school student outreach and engagement, including coordinating campus events and visits for pre-college students and teachers; preparing reports and managing MESA student workers. The incumbent will serve as the main contact for the UCLA MESA Schools and MAP participants. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining MESA and MAP records and developing MESA and MAP collateral and digital assets (video, print, audio and other media). | | | |
Department Summary | Center for Excellence in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering champions the academic and professional development of a community of engineering and computer science undergraduate students who exhibit a deep interest and commitment to engaging in leadership activities to address the barriers facing women and minority students in engineering careers, including students who are first in their families to attend college or who have experienced socioeconomic or educational disadvantages. The Center offers various programs to support K-20 pathways that lead to engineering and computing degrees. |
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | MESA and MAP Program Coordination | 1. Coordinate the delivery of service for the UCLA MESA Program’s 20+ schools during the academic year and provide updates and the enrollment progress for each school. 2. Assist with the communication and planning of the 5 annual MESA Advisor meetings and webinars. 3. Assist with coordinate, planning, implementation and volunteer recruitment for of the annual MESA Day competition with middle and high school. 4. Oversee the management of the Online Math and Science Tutoring during the academic year. Includes scheduling tutors, pairing students and tutors and communicating with students signed up to attend. 5. Partners with 3rd party vendors to schedule annual Academic skills and SAT Prep workshops. 6. Coordination the delivery of service for the Mathematics Achievement Program academic year and summer residential programs which. 7. Manage MESA Residential Program staff - Lead Instructor and Residential Director. 8. Plan and host the MAP Info session and Orientation. 9. Organize transportation and meals for MAP Participants. 10. Administer math assessment for MAP applicants and participants. 11. Compile and disseminate information pertaining to scholarships, college admissions, Samueli Engineering Info Sessions and Financial Aid. 12.
