POSITION SUMMARY | Performs skilled and semi-skilled irrigation duties in support of campus grounds operations, including the installation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and adjustment of manual and automatic irrigation systems and Central Control systems. Assists with project preparation by gathering and transporting materials, tools, and equipment to job sites. Troubleshoots irrigation issues and completes repairs and installations in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Performs excavation and trenching activities in accordance with Cal/OSHA and UCLA safety guidelines and serves as a certified competent person when required. Works under the direction of Grounds management to maintain reliable irrigation systems and support the overall appearance, safety, and functionality of campus grounds. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Maintenance & Repair | Maintain, program, troubleshoot, diagnose, adjust, and repair manual and automatic irrigation systems, including Central Control systems, field controllers, two-wire decoder systems, control wiring, valves, irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, and drip irrigation systems. Identify and correct electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical system failures to ensure efficient system operation and support water conservation practices. Coordinate with Grounds staff on irrigation operations, water conservation, and system care. Respond to trouble calls, e.g., irrigation main line breaks, system component repairs, etc. | 75% | Installation & Modification | Perform or direct excavation and backfilling using power equipment to install or modify irrigation systems. Install concrete forms and complete concrete work for drains, valves, and meter boxes. | 15% | Administrative Tasks | Review irrigation system plans/specifications; report hazardous conditions of affected areas to Grounds Management to prevent and/or minimize damage to existing utility lines, landscaped areas or structures, etc. Identify and/or resolve problems that hinder completion of an assigned maintenance or repair task. Monitor preventative maintenance program for all irrigation systems installed. Maintain accurate log of any new installation, modifications, repairs and all maintenance performed.
