POSITION SUMMARY | Under the direction of the Associate Director of Dining Services, the Nutrition Education Coordinator oversees all nutrition and wellness programs for Housing & Hospitality (H&H). The coordinator leads the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and management of evidence-based nutrition and wellness initiatives. The position develops and delivers education programs and services that support the nutritional needs of the Housing & Hospitality community and aligns with dining operations. It also coordinates wellness outreach events for students and team members within H&H. In partnership with senior dining leadership, the coordinator works with students, parents, and dining management to address individual nutrition needs related to medical conditions or food allergies. The role supports dining operations, student success, and employee wellness by providing nutrition education, consulting on menus, managing recipes and nutrition data, conducting training, leading outreach efforts, and ensuring compliance with nutrition and allergen standards. The coordinator also maintains and updates nutritional information for the Housing-Dining residential restaurants using the Jamix Food Management System. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Student Nutrition Education & Outreach | Ensure knowledge of current nutrition-related laws and guidelines is kept up to date to maintain compliance, and consult with legal and campus departments when necessary. Develop and implement nutrition education programs for student residents using evidence-based health promotion guidelines. Respond to requests for nutrition information and provide individual consultations with students and parents regarding dietary needs, including medical nutrition restrictions and food allergies. Serve on campus-wide nutrition and health committees, including the Eat-Well Task Force. Inspect Gluten Free Rooms for quality insurance. Collaborate with campus partners such as the UCLA Center for Accessible Education and the UCLA Healthy Campus Initiative to support student well-being. | 40% | Training & Nutrition Program Management and Menu Development | Serve as the department’s nutrition and health subject matter expert, advising on evidence-based menu and program changes and collaborating with chefs to expand healthier options. Recommend and demonstrate recipe modification techniques that improve nutritional value while maintaining taste and quality. Conduct nutrition and health trainings for Housing-Dining staff using varied teaching methods. Work with chefs to support students with specific dietary or medical needs and reinforce the importance of recipe adherence for those with restrictions. | 30% | Nutrition Data and Digital Systems Management | Manage and maintain nutrition data in JAMIX by entering, updating, and verifying nutritive values for recipes, menu items, and stock cards. Oversee digital nutrition content, updating website pages for Gluten-Green items and the Nutrition Program in coordination with R&D and Marketing teams. Ensure nutrition information is accurate and consistent across all platforms, including websites and menu boards, highlight key nutrients for public display, and create daily nutrition tips for web and point-of-service use. Review and validate ingredient allergen declarations, assign and verify dietary attributes such as vegetarian, vegan, allergen-free, and carbon emissions factors, and ensure all products meet labeling regulations and organizational nutrition standards. | 20% | Employee Wellness Programs | Serve as Chair of the Housing & Hospitality Employee Wellness Committee, driving initiatives to enhance health and well-being across Housing & Hospitality. Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the annual Employee Wellness Fair, managing vendor engagement, event logistics, staffing, and post-event analysis. Oversee the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for H&H, including program planning and promotion, scheduling and facilitating sessions, recruiting and coordinating trainer certifications, collaborating with UCLA HCI and campus partners, and tracking data for CDC reporting. Additionally, design and deliver large-scale wellness and nutrition trainings for groups of up to 400 participants. | 10% | | | | | |
