POSITION SUMMARY | Bring your drive for fundraising, abilities to engage and strong communication skills to join us as the Director, Business Development, UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics Development Department. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation of new donors to UCLA Athletics. You will assess and articulate goals and priorities for increasing support for Athletics. The primary focus of this position is discovery, cultivation and solicitation of UCLA-affiliated individuals, corporations and foundations that have not previously supported UCLA Athletics. You will work collaboratively with Athletics Development Officers to determine and establish long and short-term goal objectives for major gifts, planned gifts, endowments, special projects, capital projects, and high-level annual fund gifts in Los Angeles area and the across the United States. As the Director, Business Development you will work with individuals and organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations. You will regularly interact with prospects and donors through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | New Prospect Identification and Cultivation | • Formulate and implement cultivation strategies for individuals, corporations and foundations to address the priority assigned programs for resource development. • Regularly interact with new prospects through personal meetings, attendance at special events and UCLA athletic competitions, telephone conversations and correspondence. • Identify and qualify major-gifts prospects through rating and screening, prospect list segmentation and analysis, and one-on-one contact with donors and volunteers. • Create a portfolio of new prospects for major gifts and maintain active awareness of approximately 150 prospects at all stages of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. • Responsible for 30 significant face-to-face donor discovery, cultivation and solicitation meetings per month. | 20% | New Prospect Identification and Cultivation | • In concert with Athletic Development staff, solicit prospects and current donors in the greater Los Angeles area, statewide, and nationwide. • Plan, supervise and conduct events such as lunches, dinners, and receptions for new prospects, donors and volunteers. • Conceptualize, create and distribute appropriate documents and materials to promote areas of priority for development support. • Create and disseminate donor contact reports on a weekly basis for prospect management and proper donor follow up. | 20% | New Prospect Identification and Cultivation | • Work with volunteer committees and organizations to identify potential supporters for Athletics and develop strategies to engage those individuals, corporations, and foundations. • Develop strategies and programs to attract and identify prospective donors who are potential supporters for priority areas in Athletics. • Ensure that identified prospects for Athletics are added to appropriate lists to receive key campus publications. • Both independently and in conjunction with Development Research Office, execute prospect and donor research with discretion, using computer information systems, library reference materials, files and other university resources. | 20% | Prospect and Donor Solicitation | • Research and write solicitation documents for special solicitation correspondence, and individualized proposals. • Determine appropriate solicitation strategies for prospects. • Schedule and conduct personal solicitations. • Research and prepare briefing documents on prospects and donors for Athletics. • Focus on new prospective donors, securing leads for new donor prospects, and solicitation for new donations to UCLA Athletics. | 30% | Event Planning | • Plan and supervise implementation of special events for donor identification, cultivation. • Attend events as appropriate; some work on evenings and weekends is required. • When required, plan and execute events in collaboration with the Offices of Special Events and Protocol, Development Events, the Alumni Association and other campus groups and offices. | 5% | Rules Compliance | • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.” • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, BIG10 and University of California.
