POSITION SUMMARY

UCLA Student Affairs is a network of more than 25 programs, services, and experiences that connect with the life of every student during his, her, or their collegiate career and strives to ensure students have the programs and resources to meet their personal and academic needs.  As the Director of Development, Student Affairs, you will work across a variety of disciplines and on varied and complex gifts including those that benefit underserved student populations, student leadership programs, club and recreational sports, and much more. This is a great opportunity to bring your enthusiasm for fundraising and commitment to students to help us continually build and expand programs, services and initiatives that will enable our undergraduates to flourish as students and move on to be strong leaders in the world.

 

Serving as the Director of Development, Student Affairs, you will work with the Executive Director of Development for Scholarships and Student Support Initiatives (SSI) to plan and implement a strong, proactive major gift program that reflects the priorities of the Office of Student Affairs.  You will develop and maintain a portfolio of individual major gift prospects, work closely with Student Affairs leadership, staff and your colleagues on the UCLA development team to gain knowledge of programs, areas of expertise and space needs, determine market feasibility for priorities, and provide leadership, assistance, advice and counsel on fundraising strategies and initiatives. As the Director, you will you will also establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with appropriate individuals and offices throughout External Affairs, within the Office of Student Affairs and campus-wide. You will work with the Executive Director on programmatic management and planning and will review and revise program goals and objectives at appropriate intervals. In addition, as Director, you will manage fundraising staff as appropriate to drive fundraising initiatives and projects. Major Gift Fundraising & Stewardship

1. Implement a plan to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects/donors.

 

2. Identify new donors for support through volunteer/donor meetings; establish/maintain high-level volunteer structure for linkage to programs, solicitation assistance and other program needs.

 

3. Develop/implement collaborative strategies/timetables for successful fundraising/stewardship for major gift prospects/donors at $100K+.

 

4. Develop/manage portfolio of high-level prospects; maintain active awareness of all prospects at all stages of donor cycle.

 

5. Devise/execute long/short-term strategies/timetables for successful major gift solicitations.

 

6. Organize volunteers to sponsor/assist with cultivation activities; directly support prospect solicitations of volunteers/academic leaders.

7. Develop/manage long-range, comprehensive cultivation strategies/timetables for prospect engagement and support as donors.

 

8. Develop giving opportunities/case statements/fundraising materials for Student Affair programs and initiatives (e.g., Students Greatest Needs, Veterans, Transfer Students, LGBTQ+).

 

9. Coordinate strategies for continuous stewardship to ensure regular contact with donors.

 

10. Provide vehicles for continued donor awareness of Student Affairs needs and objectives to encourage continued giving including strategic events.

 

11. Maintain appropriate donor/prospect records; manage follow up reports and contact with donors on gift usage.

 

12. Meet or exceed department standards for contacts, visits, solicitations and dollars raised.

Volunteer and Leadership/Faculty Staffing

1. Coordinate staffing for/participate in major gift solicitations by the Dean, faculty and volunteers for the Office of Student Affairs; adhere to EA guidelines for pre/post-visit.

 

2. Work with Student Affairs boards/committees comprised of prominent corporate/community volunteers, parents and alumni.

 

3. Actively involve Student Affairs constituents in fundraising process. Partner to recruit/develop division volunteer board.

 

4. Provide volunteers with prospect assignments, solicitation guidelines and associated materials; guide/accompany through solicitation assignments.

 

5. Meet with faculty in priority areas to gain knowledge of research interests/areas of expertise; serve as a staff to represent the division to the broader community.
