As the Associate Director, you will be a member of UCLA Extension's inaugural frontline fundraising team responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of annual gifts, with a specific focus on soliciting gifts ranging from $5,000 to $75,000. You will identify and manage a portfolio of prospects, sponsors and donors and will create individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies and timetables. You will strategize and oversee execution of a variety of UCLAx cultivation events with a focus on gifts that support annual operations. You will also support and/or manage corporate sponsorship event strategies and oversight. In addition, you will work in partnership with the Assistant Dean, External Affairs, and other Extension team members on a wide variety of fundraising projects and initiatives and will be a strong contributor to the broader mission of the External Affairs office. Excelling in quality, innovation, and impact, UCLA Extension (UCLAx) is one of the top providers of continuing and professional education in the United States, offering programs and classes to more than 50,000 students per year through approximately 4,500 classes and certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of traditional, nontraditional, domestic, international, professional, and continuing education students throughout and beyond Los Angeles.

Prospect Identification, Cultivation, and Solicitation

1. Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects/donors; identify legitimate prospects for support and secure funding focusing on gifts of $5,000+.

 

2. Qualify and create core portfolio of prospects; maintain awareness at all stages of identification, cultivation and solicitation.

 

3. Explore opportunities for engaging, cultivating, and soliciting new audiences; plan/implement cultivation activities to broaden base of support.

 

4. Create/implement strategies to increase participation of new donors; encourage current/past donors to renew at greater levels.

 

5. Conduct personal visits with prospects not managed by major gift officers; solicit leadership level and junior level major gifts as appropriate.

 

6. Meet or exceed department standards for contacts, visits, solicitations and dollars raised.

Sponsorship Event Strategy and Oversight

1. Partner with Extension program directors and corporate partners to define sponsorship opportunities, aligning sponsor involvement with event goals and timelines.

 

2. Build and maintain productive relationships with corporate sponsors, and internal/external constituents; collaboratively develop industry advisory and other boards as appropriate to leverage corporate engagement.

 

3. Manage the strategic implementation of sponsor presence at events, overseeing logistical arrangements, ensuring brand visibility, and capturing event outcomes for future reference.

 

4. Evaluate sponsor engagement effectiveness, making recommendations for enhancing sponsorship outcomes based on event analytics and partner feedback.

Other Programmatic Responsibilities  

1. Manage procedures for accurate and timely acknowledgement of gifts and complete gift reports as required.

 

2. Work with colleagues including career services, program directors and staff, to advance annual giving opportunities to secure funding from diverse donors and to increase the overall diversity of UCLA Extension donor base.

 

3. Assist in the planning and organization of cultivation, conferences/seminars and events.

 

4. Develop strong, collegial and effective working relationships with colleagues at UCLA Extension and across campus.

 

5. Manage own budget and expenses associated with travel, entertainment and external communications.

 

6. Coordinate strategic outreach activities initiated by the External Affairs team.
