POSITION SUMMARY

As an Associate Director of Development and a valued member of the UCLA Health Sciences Development team, you will work in consultation with the Director of Development, and will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of lower-level major gift prospects in support of the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery and other areas as appropriate. Working in consultation with the Director/Executive Director of Development, Neurology and Neurosurgery you will strategically plan, prepare for and participate in lower-level major gift solicitations as appropriate. You will find success through identifying, growing and managing a portfolio of lower-level major gift prospects; organizing and conducting meetings with prospective donors; generating compelling written and oral communications to constituencies; and collaborating with internal stakeholders to advance the philanthropic priorities of the departments of Neurology/ Neurosurgery. Prospect Identification, Cultivation & Solicitation

1. With the Director, Neurology/Neurosurgery, develop long-range, comprehensive prospect strategies/timetables for a portfolio of a designated number of individuals, taking advantage of broader cultivation/stewardship opportunities when appropriate.

 

2. Create core of prospects for lower-level major gifts; maintain active awareness of individuals in prospect pool at various stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

 

3. Use/analyze available data to develop portfolio and identify prospects in relation to academic priorities; work with Director t to appropriately assign/manage newly identified prospects.

4. In consultation with Director, Development prepare or direct the preparation of written proposals, gift agreements, case statements and/or other special materials for use in specific solicitations.

 

5. Arrange appropriate opportunities for the Neurology/Neurosurgery administrators, academic leaders, and/or faculty with prospects and donors to increase interest in and support program initiatives.

 

6. Engage volunteers, organize and conduct, meetings/events for volunteers to identify prospects and increase visibility/giving propensity; arrange appropriate opportunities for fundraising officers, leadership/administrators to meet with volunteers.

7. Provide full staff support in the solicitation of prospects/donors. Arrange for appropriate academic leaders/faculty to participate in solicitations as needed/suitable; participate directly as appropriate.

Program Support, Planning, Reporting & Tracking

1. With Director, Development/fundraising team, support long-range goals/objectives for fundraising programs/activities that reflect  priorities for private support as determined by the Dean; help to conceptualize/implement additional strategies for donor acquisition/expansion.

 

2. Establish close working relationships with departmental heads/faculty as appropriate; become thoroughly familiar with activities/research interests to develop accurate/compelling case statements, gift opportunities and appropriate linkages with volunteers/prospective donors.

 

3. Assist Director, Development in preparing annual operating plan designed to facilitate achievement of goals/objectives; review/revise at appropriate intervals.

4. With Director, Development conduct periodic/annual review of results.  Determine strengths/weakness of own performance, and modify plans and strategies accordingly.

 

5. Serve as a staff resource/liaison for assigned departments/programs within Neurology/Neurosurgery and represent the School of Medicine to the broader campus community and beyond.

 

6. Establish/maintain cooperative working relationships with appropriate individual fundraising officers and other offices within HSD/across campus to further the planning/coordination efforts for donor acquisition, upgrade, retention and renewal.

 

7. Work with the Director, Development and Neurology/Neurosurgery team to prepare for and confirm details of meetings with donors.

1. Work with the Director and/or stewardship team to devise and implement individualized stewardship plans for major donors; ensure regular contact with donors through annual reports, acknowledgments, and various stewardship and cultivation activities and events.

 

2. Extend the courtesies of the University to donors and volunteers and encourage their active participation as appropriate.

 

3. Provide vehicles for continued awareness on the part of donors of current needs and objectives in order to encourage continued giving.

 

4. Collaboratively plan and leverage new or existing activities/events designed to increase philanthropic gifts.

 

5. Attend events to cultivate and steward potential donors.
