POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Development Coordinator supports LPPI's fundraising and development activities by implementing components of the institute's development plan, coordinating grant and donor engagement activities, conducting prospect research, supporting proposal development, maintaining development data and reporting, and assisting with donor cultivation and stewardship. The incumbent collaborates with LPPI leadership, staff, and the UCLA Luskin School development team to support fundraising initiatives that advance LPPI's mission and long-term sustainability.


Department Summary

The UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute (LPPI) seeks a dynamic professional to serve as our Development Coordinator. LPPI champions nonpartisan, evidence-based domestic policy solutions that improve the economic, political, and social landscape for Latinos and other communities of color in states and localities across the U.S. LPPI leverages UCLA’s cross-disciplinary strengths to create an enterprise-wide home for Latino social policy with expertise in over a dozen issue areas, including economic mobility, representation, health, environment, and Latino data infrastructure. LPPI fosters innovative research, leverages policy-relevant expertise, drives civic engagement, and nurtures a leadership pipeline to propel viable policy reforms that expand opportunity for all Americans.

Fundraising & Program Administration

1.Implements established components for fundraising programs and activities; plans, administers, and implements a well-defined or established fundraising program requiring the exercise of limited discretion and judgment.

2.Works with other team members to ensure predetermined fundraising goals are met.

3.Assists in the organizing and implementation of special events. Handles special projects/assignments involving direct interaction with funders and donors.

4.Strong project management of organizational development activities, including coordination of databases, activity calendars, and funder engagement processes from start to finish

5.Coordination of LPPI staff, from start to finish in funder engagements.

Grant & Donor Development

1.Pursues grant opportunities, supports proposal development, and provides all related reports.

2.With some direction, conducts prospect research on alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to identify prospects.

Communications

1. Drafts informational and marketing materials for review of assigned programs.

2.Prepares materials for specific fundraising activities and/or assists with promotional efforts, such as writing, speaking, and telephoning, as required.

Reporting & Evaluation

Develops and maintains reports on development and project activities and results, providing information on program trends and data analysis.

Minimum of three years of fundraising experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field strongly preferred.

Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with the LPPI team, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals.

Demonstrated skill and/or ability to work with a dean and/or senior faculty or equivalent leadership of a similar level and type at a comparable organization.

Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion, and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision.

Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA’s fundraising goals and the specific priorities for Latino Policy and Politics Institute; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness.

Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgment, proposals to individuals, corporations, and foundations, and reports.
