POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Electrician Supervisor and or Manager for Electrical Shop, oversee and coordinate the work of the Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers who are responsible for campus-wide and Center for Health Sciences projects including fixed priced jobs for tenant improvement projects, deferred maintenance projects, periodic scheduled maintenance; trouble call issues, and support to all Project Managers for multi-craft projects.  Review and coordinate daily schedules and work; interface with client.  Conduct job site assessment and evaluation; develop and review estimates; resolve project problems, coordinate outages, and ensure job is closed and charged properly; participate in the Disaster Initial Response Team.

Oversee Work Crews

1. Oversee and coordinate the work of Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers who perform work related to on-going projects campus-wide. E  2. Assist Supervisor with feedback regarding subordinates work by: communicating work expectations, assisting with feedback sessions, providing input for counseling with the Supervisor, and assisting with information for performance evaluations. E  3. Provide training and orientation to new hires as well as conduct on-going Safety Training sessions. E

Multi-craft and Single-craft Support

1. Upon receipt of work order, as needed, conduct a job site evaluation, analysis of blueprints, and/or in consultation with the client assist with estimate and project scope. E      a) Proceed with work when authorization is received from client.    b) Review specifications and obtain appropriate approvals as necessary.    c) Inspect projects on an on-going basis to ensure project meets specifications, schedules, costs, and quality standards. 2. Maintain close communication with Electricians and crew working on project. E      a) Report to Supervisor any problems or issues, progress of project, and recommendations.    b) On critical projects, ensure clear and accurate communication with Manager of Electrical Systems and Supervisor regarding status of projects. 3. Resolve work related problems, delays in delivery of materials and equipment, unanticipated obstacles, changes in work scopes, and problems with quality control. E      a) Advise Supervisor of problems.    b) Implement appropriate remedies and remedial actions.    c) Maintain communication with client and keep them apprised. 4. As necessary, coordinate any necessary utility outages and building notifications with Building and Outage Coordinator. E

Budget

1. Monitor all project budgets for labor and materials utilizing Facilities Management customized computerized maintenance management system (i.e. Maximo.) E  a) Review costs to avoid project overruns. b) Research and apprise Supervisor to potential overruns on projects. 2. Ensure all labor and material costs on projects are properly initiated and cleared prior to closing of a project. E  3. In the event there are insufficient funds, take immediate action to identify the cause of problem. E

Administrative Operations

1. Kronos E      a) On a daily basis, review Kronos report (computerized timekeeping system) and make appropriate edits. 2. Meetings E          a) Conduct in-house safety training meetings.    b) Evaluate and recommend potential outside training, conferences, and seminars for staff to Supervisor for approval. 3. Attend weekly production control meetings with Supervisors to review current and future projects. E  4. Provide assistance to Supervisor. E  5. On a rotating basis, provide On-Call response during off-hours and weekends to Campus and CHS for emergencies and urgent problems. Provide direction and consultation via the phone or to employees on site, and/or consult with Director, Assistant Managers, Managers, Sr. Superintendents, and/or Supervisors. E       a) In addition to on-call duties, respond to Campus and CHS emergencies immediately.     b) Mobilize crews and organize immediate intervention for the protection of property and ensuring the safety of the public or staff.     c) Coordinate with and respond to UCPD, LAPD, UCFD and LAFD emergency staff, and medical emergency staff.     d) Ensure proper notification of Assistant Vice Chancellor, Director, Executive Officer, and/or On-Call Sr. Superintendent and Supervisors.

Detailed knowledge of all aspects of the electrical trade and related codes sufficient to direct work, evaluate progress and ensure that craft work assignments meet stated standards.

Working knowledge of construction trade practices and safety requirements sufficient to oversee all phases of repair and renovation work, prepare multi-craft estimates, work scopes, budgets and schedules; address project related delays or disruptions and bring to closure within stated timeframes and guidelines.

Working knowledge of: electromechanical systems and solid state controlled electrical devices; materials equipment and tools of the Electrician's trade; NFPA 72, NEC, and CEC, Occupational Safety and Health Administration general safety rules, equipment, and clothing and California Administrative Codes including Titles 19 22, and 24, ADA, Joint Commissions and OSHPD that may affect projects, their projected estimated costs, or personnel.

Working knowledge of: various power distribution equipment, auxiliary equipment and motor control systems; basic electrical theory including AC/DC systems applications, and protective relaying; computerized facilities maintenance software.

Ability to: use a variety of power or hand tools and electronic testing equipment;  troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and equipment for malfunctions, signs of damage, deterioration, or adjustment.
