POSITION SUMMARY | The Hammer Museum seeks a Technical Director(TD) to lead all aspects of the technical operations of the Billy Wilder Theater and the delivery of AV services throughout the Museum. The TD will develop and implement operating procedures; liaise with program participants; coordinate work with product and service vendors; and hire, train and manage a large team of AV Technicians required for successful operations. The TD ensures AV services are delivered in a manner consistent with Museum policies and standards. The TD will also ensure safe working procedures and address or escalate any safety issues as they arise. Additionally, the Technical Director will manage the AV operations for all Public Programs, special events, and internal and external meetings, including but not limited to identifying needs and coordinating the delivery of AV services; arranging video taping or special equipment and special staffing needs; ensuring the availability and functionality of equipment; and providing expertise and leadership to staff assisting with the production. | | | |

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Administrative Duties | 1. Oversee and execute administrative functions required to successfully direct the Museum’s enterprise and theatrical AV operations, including the Billy Wilder Theater, conference rooms, exhibition spaces, Public Programs venues, special events, and internal and external meetings. 2. Prepare the department’s budget and perform regular financial oversight responsibilities by approving department invoices, monitoring departmental expenditures, reviewing budget status with department head, assisting in developing annual budgets, issuing check requests and purchase orders for equipment, systems, and repairs, and tracking expenditures. 3. Hire, supervise, and train AV Technicians, specialists, and student workers supporting both enterprise and theatrical AV services. Schedule and prioritize workloads across multiple venues and service types. Monitor and assess employee performance through annual staff performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback. 4. Implement procedures for tracking employee hours and assume responsibility for monitoring the accuracy of timesheets for full-time and rotating part-time staff. 5. Maintain frequent contact with Programming, Events, Operations, IT, and Facilities staff, clients, and outside vendors to determine requirements for AV services delivery. Evaluate user requests and recommend appropriate technical solutions across conference rooms, live events, exhibitions, and theatrical productions. 6. Ensure enterprise AV systems and staffing are appropriately configured, tested, and validated in advance of Board-level meetings, including hybrid, recorded, and high-profile presentations requiring confidentiality and operational reliability. 7. Plan and coordinate film, digital media, and projection services with affiliated organizations and the Department of Public Programs. Arrange for bookings, preparation, testing, and secure handling of media assets. 8. Select and evaluate vendors and potential vendors for AV equipment rental, system integration, maintenance, and on-site services supporting enterprise and theatrical AV environments. 9. Develop and implement policies and procedures for delivery of AV services, safe operations, vendor coordination, asset security, and collaboration with Museum Security. Track and store AV and archival materials, coordinate the transfer of recordings and digital assets to appropriate parties, and monitor the effectiveness of procedures to ensure service performance standards are met. 10. Identify and research vendors; negotiate and manage contractual agreements for AV equipment purchases, leases, rentals, software, and maintenance. Monitor payments, warranties, service agreements, and ensure compliance with contract requirements. 11. Prepare and maintain technical documentation and post-event reports for Directors of Operations and Program, including system performance, issues, and recommendations for improvement. 12. Inventory, label, and maintain a comprehensive database of AV equipment, systems, and software licenses, supporting lifecycle planning and asset management. | 50% | Technical Duties | 1. Schedule and oversee regular inspection, testing, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of AV equipment and systems. Monitor system health, report repair needs, and coordinate repairs with internal teams and external vendors. 5. Research, review, and evaluate developments in AV, networking, and related computer hardware, software, and control systems; develop proposals and recommend technologies that meet evolving institutional, programmatic, and user needs. 6. Undertake special projects as assigned, including system upgrades, space renovations, new technology deployments, and cross-departmental initiatives. 7.
