POSITION SUMMARY

Anderson Computing & Information Services (ACIS) provides information and technology services to the Anderson School of Management. Under the direction of the Director of Academic Technology Solutions at ACIS, the Academic Technology Coordinator will have responsibility for coordinating program technology needs, as well as implementing best practice improvements to instructional technology services and operations to meet those needs.  In doing so, the Academic Technology Coordinator will work directly with Anderson faculty and staff to assist in gathering instructional technology requirements for programs and courses.  The incumbent will be expected to maintain strong stakeholder relationships with faculty, program leads, and students, and will manage projects through to completion, providing first-rate customer service to internal and external customers.

 

The Academic Technology Coordinator provides academic  technology support to about 400 Anderson School faculty and staff and 2000 students in various academic programs, in coordination with the ACIS Help Desk.  In conjunction with the Academic Technology Solutions (ATS) team at ACIS, which is made up of both full-time staff and student workers, incumbent advocates and supports the use of technology in support of instruction and learning, which includes hardware, software, and A/V equipment, in Anderson classrooms and other physical, as well as on-line and digital learning spaces, including media production studios. The ATS team serves as the 2nd tier support to the ACIS Helpdesk, handling inquires related to academic technology, such as video and web conferencing, classroom A/V equipment, learning management system, course evaluation, productivity and collaboration software, media production, and supporting instructional design efforts. ATS works closely with other internal teams within and outside of ACIS, as well as external stakeholders, to ensure issues and requests are resolved as quickly as possible.  Incumbent will have responsibilities for supervising student workers.

 

The employee will perform hands-on support tasks, resolve technical problems, monitor service ticket system and email inboxes, help program and operate A/V systems, help develop middleware to integrate backend software systems, and provide training and documentation to Anderson and guest users.  Incumbent will also assist with maintaining vendor relationships and support escalations. This position will have frequent interactions with Anderson staff and faculty to understand course objectives and technical requirements and to provide direct support including setting up, configuring, testing, and troubleshooting A/V equipment, network, computers, and software systems in classrooms and other learning spaces for instruction, seminars, workshops, and conferences. This position will provide support for in-class web/video conferences and coordinate and assist with instructional recording and live streaming activities. Incumbent is expected to work outside of normal office hours and/or weekends to support classes when needed. The Academic Technology Coordinator will understand the standard features and functions of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and related technologies, and help ensure the system meets the Anderson School's requirements. 

 

Incumbent must be able to function effectively as a member of a team, and work on a variety of concurrent issues, with minimal supervision. Will meet regularly with supervisors to evaluate outstanding issues.

Academic Technology Coordination and Implementation

1. Assist with oversight on all aspects of instructional technology for the classroom and course management system, including coordinating and consulting across multiple departments and among a wide variety of stakeholders including faculty, vendors, administrators, staff, and students. (E)

 

2. Manage and oversee the back-end creation of online course webpages for all hybrid and online courses within the LMS system. (E)

 

3. Provide expertise in identifying new technologies to meet the school’s evolving academic technology needs (E)

 

4. Work with program staff and administrators to identify learning technology needs, review these needs periodically, and ensure technology deployed continues to meet current and future needs. (E)

 

5. Collaborate with the senior administration of the Anderson Computing and Information Systems unit, Instructional Design Team, and other program stakeholders to develop and implement a production plan for all classes with on-line content. (E)

 

7. Work closely with and within cross-functional ACIS teams to ensure optimal delivery and support of academic technology. (E)

 

8. Assist the faculty in the implementation of various tools for online engagement, including quizzes, discussion forums, assignment dropboxes, gradebooks, and other resources/activities. (E)

 

9. Collaborate with ACIS , faculty, and other program stakeholders to develop and deploy resources both inside and outside of the Learning Management System, as needed, for students taking online courses. (E)

 

11. Coordinate with faculty and programs on exam proctoring and other instruction-related activities as needed. (E)

 

12. Assist users with the technology logistics for Anderson classes. Must be able to meet the high expectations of senior leadership and the Dean. (E)

Academic Technology Support

1. Assist users with questions about and problems with the learning management system (Bruin Learn / Canvas), course evaluation system, productivity and collaboration software, and other systems related to instruction or collaboration. (E)

 

2.  Develop analytic reports by extracting data from multiple data sources. (E)

 

3. Meet with instructor and program staff to determine the computing, A/V, and logistical requirements of each special class session request; follow through on the detailed planning of the sessions and ensure flawless execution. (E)

 

4. Provide training and technical support to instructors and remote participants for web and video conferences. (E)

 

5. Check, set up, operate, and troubleshoot A/V and video conferencing equipment in the classroom. (E)

 

6. Monitor the status and optimize the quality of web and video conferences. (M)

 

7. Provide technical assistance and on-site support to staff, faculty, and guests for their classroom needs (e.g. projectors, mics, lectern touch panel, and computer). (E)

 

8. Assist in the live recording and streaming of class sessions, and monitor and optimize the system performance and video quality. (E)

 

9. Perform walk-through prior to the start of special class session as required by the instructor or the program. (E)

Documentation, Support, and Training

1. Consult with professors, teaching assistants and other staff on best practices for online/hybrid instruction. (E)

 

2. Refer faculty who are new to the format to the Instructional Design Team and other instructors who have already had success with online/hybrid instruction and who can provide guidance on the format. (E)

 

3. In collaboration with ACIS, support technical training, develop training guidelines/strategies, and provide documentation and on-going support for the adoption of instructional technologies. (E)

 

4. Work with the ACIS and program staff to identify appropriate new and existing technologies for online instructional delivery. (E)

 

5. Develop and implement hybrid/online learning initiative assessments based on measurable outcomes, including faculty and student satisfaction. Analyze assessments and provide actionable recommendations and feedback for improvement. (E)

 

6. Provide ongoing and visible support to students who are taking online and/or hybrid classes as well as faculty who are teaching in these formats. Gather feedback from these key stakeholders, including attending occasional meetings with student reps on weekends. (E)

 

7. Create guidelines and standard procedures specific to online/hybrid learning. (E)

 

8. Respond to faculty requests for constructive feedback on online/hybrid instruction. (E)
