POSITION SUMMARY | The Director of New Media, Football provides advanced-level leadership, strategy, and execution for all football-related digital and new media initiatives in support of recruiting, brand visibility, and program objectives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, directing, and overseeing comprehensive multimedia and digital communication strategies, including graphics, photography, and social media content, aligned with UCLA Athletics and UCLA Football brand standards. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and professional judgment, serving as a subject matter expert in digital communications and new media. The role requires independent decision-making on complex projects, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate programmatic goals into innovative digital content strategies. The incumbent must adhere to and comply with all University, Conference, NCAA, and departmental rules and regulations, including applicable media rights restrictions. The Director of New Media, Football reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, Chief of Staff for Football, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Assistant Athletics Director, Creative Content, Social Media & Video Operations. The incumbent works independently under general direction, exercising a high degree of discretion and professional judgment in planning, prioritizing, and executing work. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Digital Strategy, Leadership & Program Oversight | • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive digital and new media strategy for UCLA Football in support of recruiting, brand visibility, and program objectives. • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for football digital communications, advising football leadership on best practices, emerging platforms, and innovative multimedia approaches. • Translate programmatic, recruiting, and brand priorities into integrated digital campaigns and long-term content plans. • Ensure all football digital content aligns with UCLA Athletics and UCLA Football brand standards, tone, messaging, and visual identity. • Independently manage complex, high-visibility projects requiring advanced planning, prioritization, and coordination across multiple stakeholders. | 30% | Social Media Strategy & Management | • Lead the strategy, execution, and day-to-day oversight of UCLA Football’s official social media channels, including but not limited to Instagram, X (Twitter), Facebook, and emerging platforms. • Develop, implement, and enforce content standards related to messaging, design, tone, and engagement practices. • Establish growth, engagement, and performance benchmarks; analyze metrics and trends; and make data-informed recommendations for continuous improvement. • Oversee real-time engagement with recruits and followers, ensuring professional, timely, and brand-appropriate interaction. • Plan and manage digital coverage for select off-site events, working independently to capture and distribute content when required. | 25% | Graphics Creation & Creative Content Oversight | • Direct and oversee the creation of high-quality custom graphics and visual assets in support of football recruiting and program communications. • Develop original graphic concepts and visual storytelling approaches that enhance the football program’s digital presence. • Manage and prioritize a high-volume creative request process, exercising independent judgment to balance competing timelines and strategic priorities. • Provide functional leadership and creative direction to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to brand standards. • Coordinate with internal partners to integrate graphic and visual assets across digital platforms. | 20% | Supervision & Staff Leadership | • Provide direct supervision to three (3) Creative Content Producers, including assigning work, setting priorities, and overseeing day-to-day operations. • Provide functional leadership, mentorship, and performance feedback to support professional development and high-quality output. • Review work products for quality, consistency, and alignment with strategic objectives and brand standards. • Coordinate staffing coverage and workload distribution to ensure timely delivery of digital content. | 15% | Photography & Creative Production | • Plan and direct football recruiting photoshoots, including identifying locations, concepts, and creative elements that enhance the recruit experience. • Capture, curate, and manage original photography for use in digital campaigns, social media, and graphic production. | 5% | Rules Compliance | • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.” • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.
