POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Custodian is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Hammer Museum. Performs all duties associated with cleaning the Museum in various areas and provides additional assistance throughout the facility as directed.  Responsibilities include setup and breakdown for various functions and events; assisting with installation and removal of furniture and equipment; and operation of various types of maintenance equipment. Assists in changing light bulbs and performs various other maintenance duties as assigned (e.g., painting, assembly of furniture, assisting in office moves).

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Janitorial

1. Perform all duties associated with the cleaning of public, administrative, and support areas of the museum, including but not limited to galleries, courtyard, theater, café, loading dock, offices, storage, and pantries.

2. Perform the following duties: mop (wet and dry), sweep, clean windows, vacuum, polish chrome, steam clean carpets, scrub, wax and polish floors, scrub and sanitize restrooms, clean light fixtures, empty trash and recycling bins, stocks supplies, remove graffiti, and clean galleries.

3. Notify Lead Custodian or Operations Manager when janitorial supplies are low by monitoring inventory and report problems of maintenance equipment.

4. Work with other staff to setup, support, and cleanup before, during, and after meetings and special events.

5. Maintain equipment, organize, and clean the facilities/janitorial supply room. Stock supplies on a daily basis.

6. Perform any other cleaning or maintenance duties as needed within the scope of the job throughout the museum.

1. Responsible for setup and breakdown of furniture for programs, events, and day to day activities as needed throughout the museum.

2. Assist with incoming and outgoing deliveries within the museum.

3. Assist with furniture and equipment installation and removal.

4. Assist with incoming and outgoing mail duties. Operate mail processing machine as needed.

5. Operate various types of maintenance equipment, including but not limited to vacuums, sweepers, carpet extractors, and floor machines.

6. Serve as work leader for part-time and temporary personnel (including students) when needed.

7. Responsible for assisting in changing light bulbs throughout the museum as needed.

8. Maintain inventory and stocks brochures and calendars within the museum.

9. Provide feedback and input to the Manager, Facilities in the selection and purchase of cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment.

10. Work with other departments to adjust and troubleshoot as needed during event or program setup, staging, and strike.

11. Assist in movement of various items, including boxed documents, catalogs, books, and any inventory to and from offsite storage as needed.

12. Report any maintenance repair or safety issues to Manager, Facilities or Director, Operations for repair or assessment.

13. Read event timelines to ensure proper setup of events and programs focusing on the facilities requirements and requests.
