POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Director or designee, support the mission of Counseling and Psychological Services and the University in providing the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of students at UCLA. Perform a wide range of complex tasks including counseling and psychotherapy with students; consultation, outreach, prevention and mental health education on campus; emergency services; supervision. Perform, in addition, mental health services within a specialty. Accept overall direction from the Director, or designee, and participates in meetings, committees and carry out necessary charting and data requirements. Act in a manner consistent with the APA code of ethics.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) serves as the campus community mental health center for students. The Department's mission is to support students' emotional and intellectual development, emotional resiliency and personal well-being toward optimizing their ability to thrive in UCLA's diverse learning environment. CAPS psychologists, clinical social workers and psychiatrists provide clinical, outreach and mental health promotion services. Clinical services are confidential and available to regularly enrolled students.


Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Clinical Services

Provide comprehensive assessment and evaluation of students' presenting concerns. Provide brief counseling and psychotherapy to UCLA student body. Staff are expected to have competencies in working with a wide range of presenting concerns including minor adjustment problems, anxiety, depression, as well as major mental illness. Contribute to Group Therapy program by leading Therapy Groups, Wellness Skills Groups, and/or Wellness Workshops. Case management for individual therapy and group therapy caseload. Provide consultation to UCLA staff, faculty, community. Provide emergency intervention to the full range of cases. Provide assessment and psychological testing when directed. Participate in aspects of CAPS training program as directed by CAPS executive director or designee.

Complete timely documentation using electronic medical records in accordance to departmental policy.  Participate in mandatory weekly Case Conference meetings and seek additional case consultation as needed. Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
