POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Men's Basketball Head Coach and Athletics Department leadership, the General Manager of Men's Basketball serves as the senior strategic leader responsible for roster construction, financial planning, NIL and revenue-share strategy, and external partnerships. This position oversees two full-time staff members (Director of Player Development and Recruiting and Director of  Scouting and Strategy) and functions as the primary bridge between basketball operations, compliance, marketing, and third-party NIL partners.

Roster Construction & Financial Strategy

 • Lead multi-year roster construction and retention planning.

 • Assist with scholarship/NIL budget planning to build a sustainable, competitive roster.

 • Oversee NIL, revenue-share, and scholarship budget allocation.

 • Evaluate roster risk, succession planning, and competitive balance.

 • Organize and manage player contracts through a centralized system.

 • Manage internal database and evaluations of current roster, incoming recruits, and potential portal targets.

 • Lead player movement forecasting—eligibility, draft decisions, transfers in/out.

 • Develop target lists in collaboration with the GM and coaching staff based on analytics, team fit, and NIL profile.

NIL, Revenue Share & External Partnerships

 • Serve as primary liaison with NIL third party marketing agencies, agents and brands.

 • Oversee contract negotiations and third-party NIL agreements.

 • Ensure alignment with compliance, legal, and institutional priorities.

 • Serve as primary liaison with agents, advisors, family reps, and NIL deal facilitators.

 • Manage pre-draft and post-season communication pipelines with players' agents.

 • Maintain a relationship network within the college and pro basketball ecosystem.

 • Work with creative/media teams to enhance student-athlete visibility across platforms (social, apparel, appearances).

 • Help develop personalized branding strategies for top players (logos, merch, campaigns, etc.).

 • Collaborate with university marketing and external relations on brand partnerships and licensing.

 • Supervise Assistant General Manager and Director of Recruiting & Scouting.

 • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with compliance, legal, and marketing units.

 • Establish operational standards and performance benchmarks.

 • Align personnel strategy with Big Ten and NCAA competitive standards.

 • Support postseason planning, player retention, and long-term program growth.

Rules Compliance

 • Comply with all Federal, State, University and Department requirements established pursuant to Title IX, including the mandatory reporting requirements for a “Responsible Employee.”

 • The DIA is governed by the NCAA, Big Ten Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and University of California System.  The incumbent is required to comply with the applicable rules, regulations and policies of those organizations.

    ◦ Review and retain all rules compliance disseminated by the DIA Compliance office.

    ◦ Report all NCAA and conference violations.

    ◦ Sign the annual NCAA Certification of Compliance form.

    ◦ Complete the Athletically-Related Income form annually.

    ◦ Comply with California State Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Law and adhere to mandatory reporting guidelines.
