POSITION SUMMARY | Under the direction of the SON senior simulation technician, incumbent will oversee, manage, and participate in set-up, take-down, use and maintenance of all simulation equipment, including PC's, AV's, and other associated equipment for the SON Simulation and Skills Lab. The technician will provide consultation and support to faculty and other users regarding the complex simulation manikins, software, task trainers and all other associated equipment. Will provide administrative guidance, as needed, to support faculty and/or outside affiliates for simulation or skill sessions. Will collaborate with faculty and other users to maximize the skills lab equipment; will be responsible for insuring safe and effective use of equipment, including set-up and operation of equipment during simulation sessions. Will engage with faculty and other users to give and receive feedback regarding effectiveness of learning sessions. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions | Function | Responsibilities | % Time | Technical Support | 1. Independently set up/take down/rearrange the skills and simulation labs with needed equipment and supplies for educational sessions. Includes the ability to lift, push/pull 50 pounds. (E) 2. Ability to use different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to full body patient simulators, and virtual reality simulations and (i.e., surgical, phlebotomy, cardiac. (E) 3. Ability to operate computer based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, monitors, LCD projectors, and other equipment. (E) 4. Serve as the simulation operator during educational sessions. (E) 5. Revise and re-program simulation scenarios and revise scripts based on feedback from users. (E) 6. Provide accurate and up-to-date orientation information to faculty, students and visitors. (E) 7. Establish and maintain positive relationships with the equipment manufacturers to support equipment troubleshooting and systems problems; ensure software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components and maintain record of repairs. (E) 8. Schedule and conduct routine equipment maintenance to maintain it in good working order, perform inventory updates, and manage equipment purchases, in conjunction with the Director of Simulation. (E) 9. Maintain proficiency and provide reports on existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation. (E) 10. Participate in technical training as needed to maintain current knowledge base in simulation technology. (E) 11. Support training of faculty and others in the operational aspects of simulation. 12. In conjunction with the Director of Simulation, evaluate new equipment and identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education. (E) 13. Conduct regular routine safety and hazard reviews of the lab (E). 14. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the lab at all times . 14. Other duties as assigned. Develop and maintain scheduling calendar for simulation or skills labs as requested. (E) 3. Maintain accurate records of schedule requests, supplies and equipment invoices. (E) 4. Develop methods to insure timely communication with faculty and other users regarding lab-related requests. (E) 5. Participate actively in joint meetings with faculty regarding pertinent joint action plans for follow through. (E) 6. Initiate and process order/requests for office supplies, simulation equipment, clinical supplies, and medical gases. (E) 7. Lead maintenance of inventory to assure appropriate levels of all supplies. Collaborate with the simulation team to oversee and manage students' needs for supplies and equipment during lab hours. (E) 8. Manage use and disposal of relevant supplies for class use and lab clean up, ensuring compliance with the UCLA Hazardous Materials Policy. (E) 9. Manage disposal of biological and hazmat waste in compliance with University, State, and Federal guidelines. (E) 10. Develop and maintain accurate logs and other records (written and video archives), and generate reports of all education and training applications (simulator use, instructor, student hours, course materials, and evaluations, assuring compliance with accreditation standards. (E) 11. Provide support as needed for guest tours of the simulation or skills labs. (E) 12.
