POSITION SUMMARY

The LOSH Project Coordinator oversees LOSH training initiatives designed to promote hazard awareness, injury and illness prevention, skills building, and leadership development among workers in Southern California. The Project Coordinator supports training and program development efforts under LOSH's Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP) and other statewide initiatives for both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences, with a particular emphasis on the role that labor unions and the labor movement play in promoting safe and just work.

 

The Project Coordinator is responsible for various facets of assigned projects, conducts outreach, facilitates meetings and communications between project partners, contributes to development of curricula and materials, convenes worker training sessions (in-person and online), provides follow-up support and assistance to training participants, and supports program evaluation activities. The Project Coordinator leads and co-facilitates trainings in English and Spanish and supports a network of training participants through ongoing outreach, technical assistance, and engagement. They work in close collaboration with other LOSH staff, subject-matter experts, partner organizations (labor unions, worker centers, and community-based organizations) and government agency representatives to carry out assigned tasks.


Department Summary

The UCLA Labor Occupational Safety and Health (LOSH) Program is dedicated to promoting worker health, safety, and wellbeing, and building capacity for workers and worker organizations to take action to improve working conditions. LOSH offers high-quality training and education, participatory action research, policy analysis, and worker leadership development to advance worker rights and protections. LOSH is a unit of both the Institute for Research and Labor and Employment (IRLE) and the Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).

Project Coordination

Maintain ongoing communications with staff and funders to establish project goals and objectives and ensure adherence to benchmarks and timelines. Conduct outreach to assess potential for engagement in project activities. Convene and facilitate regular meetings to coordinate project activities. Contribute to development of bilingual (English/Spanish) training curricula and educational materials. Follow up with training participants to provide support. Adapt program evaluation materials to assess quality and impact of training courses. Develop and maintain tools for tracking project activities for grant reporting purposes. Support network of training participants through ongoing outreach, technical assistance, and engagement. Manage discrete training and education projects.

Course Facilitation and Training

Convene training sessions, including train-the-trainer courses, for staff and worker-leaders of various partner organizations; courses to be delivered in both in-person and virtual venues (i.e., Zoom). Coordinate with LOSH staff and consultant-instructors to serve as course facilitators. Lead and co-facilitate trainings in English and Spanish with LOSH staff and consultant instructors. Participate in LOSH Coordinator meetings and other venues to share ideas and best practices for training techniques and approaches.

Tracking Occupational Safety and Health Information

Stay up-to-date on evolving policy and campaigns related to occupational safety and health, with a particular focus on California. Monitor relevant listserves, media sources, journals, and other information outlets. Participate in community meetings, workshops, and other events as deemed appropriate by supervisor. Keep LOSH staff and project team members updated on new information.

General LOSH Program Support

Assist LOSH staff with reports and/or presentations related to project activities. Collaborate with LOSH Program Specialist and social media team to publicize LOSH programs in Southern California via social media platforms. Participate in LOSH staff and project meetings, strategic planning meetings, brown bag sessions, and retreats. Support grant writing activities. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
